You sure he can't come back to this timeline though, alá Steve Rogers at the end of Endgame? Disney's making a show of Loki and in that he'll be in a different timeline, going to different parts of history and causing mischief, but would they really be willing to have such a key character missing from the Thor movies? It's not like Iron Man/Steve Rogers, where their movies are essentially over now, the Thor movies are still going. Even if it's just a new flashback scene of a time before he left the current timeline, I'd love to see some of Loki

There is nothing to suggest he would be able to jump to the films timeline, even if he somehow came into possession of the technology required.

Loki's character arc and story was completed during Ragnarok and Infinity War where he comes to terms with who he is, proudly proclaiming himself as the son of Odin and makes his sacrifice to try and help the Asgardians. Bringing him back would serve no real purpose and would lessen the arc Thanos went through during Infinity War.

It all comes down to whether Marvel want the character and if the actor wants to carry on. If they don’t then what you say is true. If they do want him then they’ll easily explain it away.

Valid. It's just a hope, as I love the character. Marvel hasn't shyed away from fan service before, and they're clearly not done with the character given that he's getting his own TV show.

Guess we'll see how it plays out. As Moggy said, Marvel will easily find a way to do whatever they want one way or another.

Phase 4!

It's been a long time coming, but Marvel Studios has finally announced its Phase 4 slate of movies.

As expected, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige took the opportunity during the Comic-Con panel today (July 20) to reveal what fans can expect next – and when they can expect it, barring any release date changes.

First up (although last to be announced) on May 1, 2020 is Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz. [prequel taking place after Civil War, Taskmaster as villain]

The Eternals will be released on November 6, 2020 and has a confirmed cast of Richard Madden [Ikaris], Angelina Jolie [Thena], Kimail Nanjiani [Kingo], Lauren Ridloff [Makkari], Brian Tyee Henry [Phastos], Salma Hayek [Ajak], Lia McHugh [Sprite] and Don Lee [Gilgamesh, the Forgotten One].

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is released on February 12, 2021, with Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tony Leung cast as the Mandarin (sorry Trevor Slattery) and also starring Awkwafina in an unconfirmed role.

Next up is the brilliantly-titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that promises to be the MCU's first "scary" movie when it's released on May 7, 2021. Benedict Cumberbatch won't be the only Avenger either as Elizabeth Olsen will be in it as Scarlet Witch. [Nightmare as villain]

As confirmed earlier this week, we are getting a fourth Thor movie and it'll be called Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are back (obviously), but the surprise return is Natalie Portman [Jane Foster/female Thor]. It'll be out on November 5, 2021.

And if all of that wasn't enough, Feige also confirmed Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Fantastic Four, Captain Marvel 2 and Mutants have also been announced for Phase 4.

Oh, and the completely unexpected Blade movie, starring Mahershala Ali in the lead role.

Phew.

But the Phase 4 slate also appears to contain the Disney+ TV shows, so there's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier coming in Fall 2020 [Daniel Brühl returning as Baron Zemo, with mask], WandaVision in Spring 2021 and Loki in Spring 2021 as well.

All of the shows will take place after Avengers: Endgame, with Loki taking place after he stole the Tesseract in Endgame and escaped from the Avengers.

Marvel also confirmed their first-ever animated series What If...?, with the MCU cast returning to voice their roles and Jeffrey Wright playing The Watcher. It'll hit Disney+ in Summer 2021.

Jeremy Renner is returning in Hawkeye, his own Disney+ show too that's out in Fall 2021 and will introduce Kate Bishop. Could we be getting a Young Avengers?

So what's the deal with GOTG3?

Likely to film next year for a 2021 release I think.

That’s a strong announcement. Portman taking over as Thor probably signals Hemsworth biting a bullet at some point in Thor Four.

I know there was a female Thor in the comics but I don’t know any more than that. Does the female Thor work alongside male Thor or does she take over after he dies?

A new Blade is (hopefully!) good news. I’m not sure if it’s MCU or standalone though.

Just caught up with this. Damn that's some sweet announcements.

2021 is stacked though. Can't see them fitting in anything else without bumping something.

I'd think 22 at the earliest for GOTG3 (Gunn has to do suicide squad first), with BP2 and prob Captain Marvel 2 as the other two movies. But there's so much to try and fit in.

'mutants' rather than X-Men is interesting. Does this compare to anything from the comics?

Also, no Spiderman 3?

Thor becomes unworthy - he’s still around but he uses an axe called Jarnbjorn rather than Mjolnir. With there being no Mjolnir and only the Stormbreaker axe in the MCU now.

I’m not sure how they’ll adapt that and I might be wrong, but I think Hemsworth works on a film-by-film contract now so it seems logical to suspect that he’s winding down to retire the character. I’m alright with that though. Give him a proper exit and set Portman up for a few Jane Foster films.

Just noticed a gap in next year’s film schedule - only two confirmed releases. I wonder if something will be bumped into a slot in July next year.

The Dr strange movie title is most interesting as that'll be how they bring in X-Men and fantastic four.

Amazing announcement and it's exciting to see that it's all change and new ideas. Only thing we need is a Cyclops solo movie and Mr Sinister and Omega Red confirmed as villians.

In the Original Sin event Thor becomes unworthy and can no-longer wield Mjolnir. An unidentified woman picks it up and gets his powers. There's a bit of back and forth over a few issues as to who it is, but eventually it's revealed to be Jane Foster. That was round about when I drifted away from comics for a bit, so I'm not sure how it resolved in the end, but Thor has a massive axe for a while instead (May be Storm breaker).

Edit: What Cora said.

Ahh ok. I think they’ll probably change it from the comics, Thor does some stupid gooseberry fool with the GoTG, loses power and Jane takes over.

After Ragnarok I trust Waititi to make a great movie rather than the Thor 1 & 2 borefests.

So is Black Widow going to be a prequel then? I can't think how it possibly couldn't be.

James Gunn is doing Suicide Squad 2 first so it's been pushed back so it's probably 2022 at the earliest which sucks :(

Can't see Thor getting killed off and Portman taking over. Characters can be "retired" without killing them off or replacing them. Valkyrie should just take over the "Thor" role without actually being Thor.

Really Excited for Eternals.

IMDB still has it for 2021, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

In other news, Endgame is officially the highest grossing movie of all time. The Avengers franchise is the fourth highest grossing franchise of all time, with an average gross of $1.938 billion per movie.
