Just got out from a showing of black panther

very good. Struck a good tone between seriousness and humour. Enjoyed it. Appears to have been set in the weeks following civil war. 8/10

Well, Black Panther was pretty strawberry floating great.

Nakia, Okoye and Shuri steal every scene they are in and Michael B. Jordan is fantastic as Killmonger.

Disappointed both Ulysses Klaue and Killmonger were seemingly killed off as they both had such presence and are some of the better MCU villains thus far.

For anyone wondering, there are 2 post-credit scenes.

Black panther 6/10

Good
they created a good sense of technological advances wakanda. The villains had good presence, story had a serious weigh too to it

Bad
felt like another origin story, the action scenes were badly edited, either too dark or too fast cutting. This did improve as film went on though. I can’t explain why but it felt very forgettable. The action scenes weren’t memorable and were actually pretty sparse. The villains had presence but the motives of killmonger were a push to believe and Klaw was killed off just as he was getting to be an interesting character. The motive of T’challas general just swapping sides at the end to follow killmonger made no sense to me at all.

It just left me cold. Felt totally too different from other MCU stuff. The soundtrack was a bit jarring too, I get they used African music but too many times it was either silent or just drum beats. I personally found it distracting.

These are my opinions, maybe I went in expecting something different as I hadn’t seen any trailers. This just wasn’t what I expected or wanted.

All the politicising of Black Panther just seems unnecessary to me.

It's a movie, looks like a pretty good movie (not seen it yet), but it really is just a movie, not a world changing activist dickhead march inducing thing, and a lot of people (on all sides) seem to be getting hysterical over it for no clear reason other than the fact that they have nothing more important to be focusing on.

If you can't see what's so culturally important about the first ever major Hollywood blockbuster with an almost all-black cast that's not about slavery or suffering then I feel sorry for you.

I thought it was really good. It was a little different from the usual Marvel fair, which was refreshing. The humour was good and a lot less forced than Thor 3 IMO. It had some really strong moments and good fights too. Characters were great, I really loved Shuri and Okoye especially.

Did anyone stay till the end of the credits? I couldn't and I'm curious to know what the second scene was.

No, it’s not just a movie, it’s a significant cultural milestone. It’s naive to suggest otherwise, especially in the world’s current climate.

I really need to start Ta-Nehisi Coates' run of Black Panther that I bought an absolute age ago. I think Christopher Priest's arc bogged the character down for me.

Looking forward to this one, first Marvel movie in quite a while I've wanted to bother with.

You should check out the Rise of the Black Panther mini series that just started the other month it's pretty good too so far. Think it's only gonna be five issues.

Never read a solo BP story. In fact I think the only one I've read with the character in has been avengers v x-men where he is part of the illuminati

Is it standalone from the main current run? I'll (eventually) take a look.

That reminds me, the Black Panther parts to the Avengers Secret Wars books was one of the few parts I liked on that whole run. Something about the Christopher Priest series felt incredibly dated and just uninteresting.

Yeah it's sort of like Batman: Year One and deals with his early years as the king.

A few kids staring into the camera in a hut, run out with big smiles calling 'white wolf, white wolf'. Bucky emerges from the hut to meet Shuri who says he still has much to learn.
