Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy | Square/Eidos Montreal | XB/PS/NSW/PC | 26th October 2021

It looks alright to me, one to keep an eye on.

Seems odd to me that they would choose to make a single player game out of source material that is based on a group of individuals.

I’m not complaining we’re getting a single player adventure, Guardians just seems a weird choice for that.

It looks decent enough but there's something about it that seems clunky.

Visual style just about works, but it isnt far off generic.

They were told to stop making Deus Ex games for this? :fp:

Had not only completely forgotten this was coming out but also forgot I'd pre-ordered the PS5 version until I got a dispatch notice from Game Collection this morning.

Gamecentral were fans!

In Short: A surprisingly ambitious cosmic space adventure that excels the more it diverges from the movies, offering robust action, impressive visuals, and unexpectedly sophisticated storytelling.

Pros: A highly competent mix of interactive storytelling and robust, tactical combat that consistently manages to surprise and entertain. Excellent art design and graphics. Amazing 80s soundtrack.

Cons: Rocket is an insufferable ass for the majority of the game and Drax and Gamora aren’t as funny as they are in the films. Lock-on system lacks precision.

Score: 8/10

This suddenly got my attention.

Interesting! If their main complaint is the characters aren't as well written as they are in the films then I can live with that.

I though this game came out about a year ago (and came to Game Pass a few weeks back)? I could have sworn that was Guardians of the Galaxy?

I actually thought Avengers and Guardians was the same thing. Its all Marvel shite so i'm not entirely wrong.

Well the Avengers game is a bit of a mess whereas this actually looks decent so yes you are wrong :capnscotty:

Eurogamer weren’t thrilled (the combat), Polygon were (the writing).

You can give the cloud version of this a go on Switch if anyone wanted to try it out. £60 for it to buy tho, pricey for something you will likely lose access to in a few years

The reviews seem to indicate the default difficulty makes the combat too easy and doesn't force toy to use any interesting tactics, where as upping the difficulty does.

Probably why there's a disparity in the gameplay impressions

I can't bring myself to buy anything digitally on Switch unless it's super discounted or I know I'm not going to care about playing it ever again (Animal Crossing)

I mean towards you pay £60 for the cloud version which needs to be connected to the Square server to play. Once Square turn the server off that’s it, you’ll never be able to access the game again
