Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | PS5 | 20/10/2023 | 91 on Metacritic, Amazing, Spectacular, Sensational!

Would love to get this but just don't have the time to put into it and that really makes the price tag hard to forgive

Saw this was 15% off at Currys so picked it up from there as I get an additional 6% discount through work, still feels expensive though!

Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise for the PS5 console. Nine months after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we find Miles still enlisting Peter’s help, but when the mysterious symbiote appears, Peter and Miles’ relationships are put to the test. Peter begins to change as he gains symbiote powers, and Miles, Mary Jane, Harry, and the rest of the friend group must help Peter while also facing the impending threats from a cast of new villains like Kraven, Lizard, Sandman, and Venom!

As far as launch trailers go, that wasn’t the greatest but I’m still hyped regardless :wub:

Yeah that'll be an amazing fight. I absolutely adored the dual boss fights in the first game, particularly the one that all took place in the air. Fantastic

In Short: The best Spider-Man game ever and probably the best use of Venom in any medium outside of comics, with the stunning visuals and slick gameplay overcoming a certain overfamiliarity.

Pros: State-of-the-art graphics and solid action with plenty of options. Some fantastic set pieces, that prove linear action is still viable despite the open world environment. Good pacing and varied and enjoyable side quests.

Cons: Unavoidably unoriginal in some ways but the steals from Batman: Arkham remains shameful. Often flat storytelling and characterisation. Some minor camera and lock-on problems. Relatively short, with little replay value.

Score: 8/10

It’s currently sitting at a 91 average on both Metacritic and OpenCritic but I imagine it’ll settle at 88 or 89. I don’t really want to be spoiled so I’m not looking at them too closely but I guess Insomniac delivers yet again

Saw that, but taking with a pinch of salt with so many '100' scores but when you go to the reviews it's because it's either 5 stars or A+ etc.

Still seems like a solid release and cannot wait for Friday, loved the original/Miles Morales versions.

Yeah, but all the games on there are rated the same way. It’s about relative reception, really, not some mathematical yardstick of objective quality.

Good stuff. Won't be getting on release but will get round to it at some point.

Aye, I prefer watching a few of the YouTube channels that just give their opinions rather than an actual review (Gameranx is one I quite like).

Like I said mine's preloaded already so can't wait. More of the same with new Spider-man villains plus Symbiote suit/attacks is all I ever wanted so bring it on!

Even after 119 (!) reviews the Metacritic score is sticking at 91. Impressive stuff; I'd wondered if the game could be "more of the same" but it appears to have impressed plenty of people.

Looks wonderful. Very excited to get into this on Friday. The fast travel is ridiculously fast.

Ok so maybe it won’t drop into the 80s. Doesn’t look like they’ve done any of the selective reviewer pool fuckery Microsoft did with Starfield to artificially pad the launch score either (glad that isn’t becoming A Thing).

Insomniac deserve a 90+ hit, they release great titles and are probably the best Sony first party studio in terms of PS5 output.

Review embargo lifted quite early on this-is that standard for Sony first party releases or were they just confident in this? You can understand why if so, near universal praise :datass:

I'm so tempted to just get this now but I know I don't have time to play it for any stretch of time. I'll wait for a sale

The fast travel was insane enough but this character transition is just… strawberry floating hell.
