So, Charlie Brooker's latest Guardian column is about the anti-gay campaign levelled at EA.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... video-game

However, and for seemingly no reason, he manages to insert a few paragraphs on the ending controversy. In these two short sections he manages to completely misunderstand the controversy in its entirety and utterly belittle the gaming public he's supposedly speaking on the behalf of.

Players have complained bitterly about the ending of Mass Effect 3 – not because of the potential for homosexual love, but because they found the narrative underwhelming. The game has a variety of different endings (not really - Taf), depending on your decisions: some have moaned that none of the possible endings are happy or satisfying enough (No they haven't - Taf). In fact, they've moaned so much, EA has hastily released an additional ending free-of-charge, so these players can experience "further closure".

I can't work out if that's depressing or sweet. On the one hand, they're spoiled little emperors with a mind-boggling sense of entitlement: it's one thing to be disappointed by the end of a story, but another to demand the author sits down and writes you a new one RIGHT NOW. You need "further closure"? What's wrong with you? But on the other hand, it's a sign that players sometimes invest so much of themselves into the characters they play, they care about them to a degree that should make any author jealous. Sneerers will doubtless leave comments about "saddoes" and "shut-ins", oblivious that by doing so, they too are playing a character in an immense MMORPG called the internet. Face it: you've even chosen a nickname and an avatar just to join in.

At least he's consistent in being both wrong and gooseberry fool.

I used to agree with Brooker a lot, but over the last year or so not so much.

Sounds like Brooker hasn't actually finished it.

Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion. Entitled. See what I did there?

You sir, are ENTITLED!

You only get one choice if you have a really low Effective Military Strength by the end. I'm guessing you didn't do too many side-missions? Not that it makes any difference. As soon as the Starchild appears it all goes to gooseberry fool.

Being pissed off by the ending is fine and completely understandable, nobody is denying that. You're only an entitled prick if you're demanding they change it.

Let's not. You and Charlie have your opinion, me and everyone else has theirs.

Even Brooker is resorting to the pathetic and lazy "entitlement" argument :fp:

Has he completed the other two games in the series?

It's a really weird deviation. It's got nothing to do with the rest of the article at all. It's like he was desperate to get a dig in.

Brerlappins little hat wrote:So i finally got around to finishing this on sunday.

W. T. F.

First off, the final level was strawberry floating tedious as gooseberry fool. Defend the missiles! Defend them again! Heres an all brute wave! Defend! Have some banshees and a bunch of guys! Defend moar! Now press a button! In the end i just stuck it on easy cause the banshee wave can get strawberry floated. By the end of the game i was honestly quite tired of the gameplay overall. It really had worn a bit thin. 99% of missions boiled down to "defend this position against horde waves".

The final part where everyone gets killed as you run to the grav lift thing was pretty cool, but like, why the strawberry float do i end up aboard the citadel with Anderson? And not say, someone awesome i had in my party 99% of the time, i.e Garrus?? Anderson, youre alright and everything, but youre not awesome space bro Garrus levels of cool.

I didnt understand a strawberry floating thing about the ending either. Im guessing i did gooseberry fool because after the normandy crashes it showed the door opening a crack then faded to black and that was it. And how come if i chose to destroy all the synthetic life and fired the crucible, it was wiping out the entire strawberry floating earth in a fireball?? I wasnt even aware i had a choice at the end. It seemed like there was only one path for me to go. Couldnt see any other options. I dunno. The whole thing was confusing and a letdown. Wouldve been so much cooler if it had just ended with shepard and garrus (or whoever your most used partner is) sitting there at the end watching the fireworks instead of introducing the stupid kid bit.

All in all probably the worst game int he series, despite having the best combat, its very gears of space war, and while thats fine for 7 hours of GOW it gets quite tiring over 25 hours of ME3. Its also so easy to miss loads of stuff, i didnt find Jack and a load of other people.

7/10.

It's not easy to miss the side missions with Jack and Grunt etc.

I haven't heard anyone make that complaint yet but you. Traynor actually tells you when those missions are available, if you ignored her than that's your fault.

Indeed. All of the missions appear quite happily in the quest log (tracking is a seperate and well discussed issue). But they appear, if you haven't been checking or taking up the multiple prompts, it's hardly the games fault.

I'm planning 2 more play throughan once the dlc is out. One with no import at all, and one from my recent run through 1 and 2.

You don't get a warning abou those missions timing out, though. I only knew because a friend of mine was all "do this mission as soon as you get it, otherwise you'll miss Jack!"

Yeah that's fair enough but that's a different point entirely, Frank.

For the longest time I was like "Specialist Trainer?" Really? Am I in a Pokemon game? What does she train?

Then I read the thing over her head.

Well it is. :|

Brer was talking about not even obtaining the said quests as you have to actually speak to Traynor to get them. (If he's not actually talking about this then I apologise.)

You're talking about actually having the quests but then going too far into the main story and then not being able to do them.

Two different things.
