PostMattress Recommendations Wanted!
by Jenuall » Mon Mar 01, 2021 6:44 pm

We are well overdue a new mattress ( :datass: ) but I'm really struggling to decide what to go for. For every good review I see about one of these newer memory foam type ones like Simba, Casper or Emma there seems to be someone moaning about having problems!

Anyone got a good recommendation for what to go for?

Get a Dormeo

https://www.dormeo.co.uk/

Best mattress i've ever had, got mine from Argos, and it's so comfy, i'll never buy a mattress with springs in again.

So the two of you are not going to climb into a nice hot soapy bath and play spot the submarine?

We have an Emma. I love it, but my wife doesn't. A lot depends on you what mattress is best suited to you I think.

Worth at least considering a decent quality sprung mattress though (not a cheapo one). In the hot summer nights they're still the coolest type of mattress to sleep on by far.

I run quite hot at the best of times, and I'm just not able to sleep on any kind of memory foam bed. Quite a few people seem to deal with it okay though, so maybe I'm just a freak in that regard.

Do not get an Eve mattress. Awful mattress, terrible customer service. We binned our year old mattress and bought a Silent Knight with loads of springs.

Bought a nectar last year and I really like it. It's very supportive and I seem to get less back pain than I used to. Felt odd though going from a pocket spring mattress to memory foam but got used to it within a couple of weeks.

So that's a plus for the Emma and Nectar options but a big minus against the Eve so far...

Same here. As good as the foam mattresses are, as soon as it gets warm I find them unbearable. Pocket springs for me.

I'm incredibly thankful i don't sleep on spring mattresses anymore, i once had one which was so bad, i woke up in the morning to find a huge metal spike had shot up through the fabric and had come within just a few centimetres from piercing my knackers.

That must have been a pretty shitty sprung mattress for that to happen. Never had an issue like that myself.

There's reasons why sprung mattresses are still popular. A decent quality one is just as good as a foam one.

I don't find memory foam comfortable at all, not just for getting too hot but being too soft and sinking into a position where I ache the next day. We went for pocket springs.

Basically don't assume memory foam is better, although of course you might personally prefer it.

Seconded. I especially recommend the sun-dried chicken tomato salad.

I've always had pocket spring mattresses and whilst I've never had a huge problem with then I also can't say I've ever find then to be fantastic either. Out current mattress was a pretty high end pocket spring one that my in-laws got us as a gift when we moved into our first place (a long time ago now!) and it's always been a bit disappointing so I'm quite tempted to try something different just to see what it's like!

A new challenger enters...

I have one of their older pocket sprung mattresses (on one of their adjustable beds), literally the best thing I have slept on.

How do you get rid of a mattress? Take it to the tip? Do you leave a sheet on it to hide the stains or do you just tell people you're getting rid of it for a friend?

We've got a king sized hypnos bed and mattress. strawberry floating expensive, but it's the best bed I've ever slept in.
