Right, so the other day I decide I really fancied learning how to make games. So, I "acquire" a copy of Game Maker 7 Pro and download some of the tutorial examples.

Three hours of work so far has produced this. Bear in mind this is nowhere near completion, as there are only 2 levels, no music and your character doesn't always face the way he's moving yet.

Initially the latter, hence I'm using Game Maker 7, as it has a simplified method of doing things. Eventually I will move onto the former.

I just think it's going to be easier for me to grasp the concepts if I use a simplified method at first, then translate what I learn from that into more advanced methods.

Thanks! I'm finding it really useful for just messing about with different things, too. It gives me a safety net to just undo or delete something if it is causing a problem, or to quickly change a variable. It's great for protoyping ideas, too.

EDIT2: OK, I'm using Rapidshare now, as MU was giving me something completely different.

Yeah, I don't know what was going on there. Megaupload has strawberry floated up somewhere along the line.

Probably had the same filename as another upload

I tried changing the filename and re-uploading, but it still gave me the exact same link.

Dunno man

Gave it a little trial run and it works but it needs a lot of work (can't move immediately re-starting after death..)

You can move, just not to the right, for some reason. I'm still figuring out why.

I played around with Game Maker a while ago. Made a couple of simple little ideas. Neither got very far because I ran into problems getting them to work just right.

Download for one here:

Can't run it on this POS laptop so I'm not sure if it works, but I think it should.

Used Game Maker for a bit as part of class in school about two years ago. Was fun for a while, I made a simple shooter in which you were an Apple logo firing iPods at Windows flags. Got bored with it eventually though.

I condone this self-initiated spirited attempt to learn what one loves. Go at it skip (yes I know you can hardly be described as "skip", and I'm only 20, but hell..). You might be amazed what you learn in the long run, later down the line.

Perseverance = talent/skill.

Apparently you've reached the download limit on Rapidshare...

I will do when I upload the next version. It might have to wait a little while, though, as I have a busy few days ahead.
