I thought the fun was happening next door as my family live in a terraced house and cousin happens to rent a flat next door, but I think I can hear them arguing now  Christmas eh. Let's just do it on the Internet.

Honestly I think it's because English people don't like to talk about real things. But my family is mostly Scottish, albeit in England, which somehow makes it worse.

I always put a lot of it down to excessive drinking, also people adding unnecessary amounts of stress to themselves over the festive period in the strive for perfection over everything, gift giving, food, hosting skills and so on, eventually something is going to give for some people so arguments ensue. It’s why as boring as it sounds and having a relatively small immediate family that I see plenty through the year (while still living with my folks), that I’m much happier just doing my own thing at home really, no added drama that way. Plus I’ve had Covid this year of course and finally tested negative (after a faint line on Christmas Eve) yesterday so I could at least sit down with people to eat for the first time in a week.
