Started to get very frustrated with MGS2, constant calls on the codec and just running around trying to find hidden bombs. First section of the game is so much better. Just pure MGS fun.

Will probably jump straight into 3 now and see if that clicks more with me.

Wish my image sig would work

Hope MGS3 clicked with you a bit more then!

Tried a little of MG2: Solid Snake last night as well, can definitely see the foundations of MGS in that game, can’t see myself replaying these like the 3 MGS games though.

What is amazing is the jump particularly graphically between MGS1 and MGS2. I don’t think since really the PS2-PS2 jump I’ve ever noticed the console jump as much

I think that'll stay the most memorable jump in graphics, from the blocky polygons of PSOne/N64 games to some amazing looking games on the GameCube/PS2/Xbox. It was a nice jump between those and the HD consoles, but I recall those consoles took a while to really get good results from the hardware.

I can't say I've spent much time watching title screens, but this one is...... Pretty good! I find the music oddly calming truthfully, neat seeing all the ways Big Boss could take people down, although I don't think I ever had much success in game really :(

After messing around in Metal Gear (MSX) for a while, I've properly started a run of it tonight, I'm following a guide to minimise backtracking/getting lost, as well as playing on easy

Metal Gear has actually held up rather well hasn’t it? Some elements do feel very dated though, no idea how many key cards you end up with but I’m currently on 3……

Just made it to the roof with the blast suit.

Yes, I think MG and MG2 are both great, still.

I've always thought MGS2 was utterly mediocre.

Is there less backtracking in MG2?

I don't remember ever finding it to be a problem. But MG2 is a definite improvement over 1.

I’ve not found it awful in MG, but when I first loaded it up, it certainly felt like a lot of running around, constantly retreading ground to see if new keys open old doors, semi following a guide it feels like I was pointlessly running round in circles

Edit, the checkpointing is particularly brutal at times

Edit 2, curse my curiosity as well, jumped in the back of a truck to be taken back to the start

Edit 3, back on course now, just made it into the desert area, which looking at the guide is the right area, guessing playing on easy means that static item drops respawn? Just found a ration so got to max amount of those (currently 18), I wasn't expecting to enjoy this quite as much as I am really!

So after chipping away at this when I've had chance throughout the day after starting it last night, I've just got the objective of defeating Metal Gear! Just got to cross the desert to building 3 and then go down to a ridiculous level 100

I'm not sure which Big Boss it is on the Codec though, is it actually BB condemning Venom to death if Snake succeeds? Or is it actually a cocky Venom thinking BB couldn't possibly have trained a soldier better than BBs double? MGS V spoilers by the way!

Will hopefully have chance to finish this off tomorrow, guessing once I'm at the Metal Gear fight there isn't much left really, just gone over 4 hours playtime, considering I recall seeing a speed run for this in about 1 hour 45 min I've certainly been taking my time.

Edit, just reached Metal Gear, will get this finished off tomorrow.

Played my PS2 version of MGS3 over the weekend to scratch my Metal Gear itch and I think I'm going to have to get the Master Collection at some point as the picture quality through bog-standard PS2-composite cables was just awful. Gameplay-wise it still holds up great but if you can't make out much of what's happening on the screen you've got no chance

Metal Gear completed :toot: just under 5 hours, might mess around in MG2 later on. Can’t wait to get to Metal Gear Solid though

Code name? Deer

Edit, messed around a bit more in MG2, guards find you really easily in this.

Found MGS1 very frustrating but it’s an old game. MGS2 however I absolutely flew threw, really took me back in nostalgia to staying up late just collecting dog tags on the game as a teen

It has such a good atmosphere when you get to the shell, the music and such. Still not a big fan of Raiden but I always thought the bomb freezing part was quite a clever gameplay idea, Fatman seems utterly pointless in the plot now though. And that E.E part in the water.. still pees me off today

I’ve noticed I can remember stupid little tricks you can do, or fun things where you can mess around and such, but Christ do I keep forgetting how to beat some bosses or do some general things

On MGS3 now which is just soooo good. The alert music especially. Be quite sad at the end that we can’t play MGS4.

Would have really liked them to touch up the games a bit though, even with Delta coming

Also does the L3 sonar work for anyone in Snake Eater? Doesn’t work for me :(

After messing around more last night, Ive started a proper run of MG2: Solid Snake this morning, already better sneaking around by crawling and then knocking on walls to distract guards. Think I'm going to keep a guide to hand like with MG, refer to it when/if (so when!) I get lost and too far off the beaten track.

I wonder how bad the discord now if fans were kept in the dark about the Snake/Raiden change, seem to recall people hated it/Raiden at the time, never mind 22 years later with Twitter and the like.

A port of MGS4 has to be in the works for collection 2 or 3 surely, it'd be a kick in the teeth to call this a Master Collection Vol 1, only for no Vol 2 or 3 to be released with at least the rest of the mainline games.

Sadly not even loaded up MGS3 yet!

I hated the Raiden thing so much back in the day. It was made even worse by how amazing the opening section of the game was, then you get moved to a boring orange oil rig playing a character you don't like. Imagine a new tomb raider game that opens with a great intro level, then dumps you in to Newport playing some random bloke, all the while having Lara show up but you neve get to play as her.

I remember not being a huge fan of it myself at the time, hopefully I'll see the merits of it more now than I did then.

Just reached the first boss on MG2 (even on easy, enemies seem to hit a lot harder in this, plus you don't seem to be able to farm rations like you can ammo), obviously got killed by the Ninja  Will use a ration and try again.

Edit, did it that time

Edit 2, this trailing bit in the jungle is a bit annoying, I’m probably making it harder than it needs to be though.

Edit, stumbled upon a Hind D, got annihilated, wondered around, found some stinger missiles, still got battered
