I think the gist from watching about 30 seconds of it is that the game looks massively open and let’s you explore in a lot of directions whereas in reality it heavily directs you toward the next power up, boss etc? I’m quite happy with how they’ve handled it really, let’s backtracking for extra items be fairly optional, didn’t stop me from getting lost for over an hour earlier though

Only watched a little bit a minute in so could be completely wrong though.

I watched it all, it's about him complaining of not knowing where to go, there are too many places to go, and says that you have to shoot a ceiling and it's gooseberry fool game design.

The video was made to take the piss out of David Jaffe because he sucks at the game and tried to dress it up as it being bad level design.

This is a follow up to this video:

I feel like Dread has hit a really nice middle ground on the Metroidvania style of games, it’s not as linear as say Fusion but it’s a lot more signposted than Hollow Knight which was really easy to get lost in from my experience!

Ah, those videos are pretty funny once you get what's going on. I didn't really understand at first but I get it now.

Yeah, it's fair enough to get stuck in a Metroidvania but don't blame the game for it. You have to be willing to look around and experiment a bit!

Yeah, I kinda didn't think how confusing they'd be without context :slol:

He had, but he just seems pissy.

They always seem pissy in those kind of videos. Though that’s probably just me

My only exposure to Jaffe before this was him getting into a twitter fight with a streamer I watch because said streamer pointed out that Cliff Blezinski doesn't have the best track record recently and saying that "crunch is bad, maybe?". It then devolved into Jaffe making multiple videos, spending days ranting about it, trying to get him on his podcast for a "DEBATE ME!" and trying to guilt said streamer into it by holding charity donations hostage.

He's all in on doubling down when he finds the dumbest hill to die on.

Blue E.M.M.I took a few times to go down, the blue and now purple ones both feel a little cheap compared to the earlier ones, obviously using the phantom cloak but they still know exactly where you are even if it doesn’t register officially with them.

Yeah these later E.M.M.I’s really break up the flow of the game, purple one feels like it needs absolute precision movements along with timings, it doesn’t even move off when it doesn’t detect you, I literally sat there and died using my cloaking ability while it just circled around the small area I was in :fp:

Edit, just got the storm missiles and beat the two Chozo soldiers, didn’t stand a chance first time as it more or less mugged me  now back to the E.M.M.I :(

Edit 2, to save my sanity do I need to use the storm missiles in a different area to grab the gravity suit before going back to deal with the 5th E.M.M.I? Or do I need an upgrade that allows me to withstand the cold?

gravity suit is the upgrade that resists the code

Just got it! Not sure if I’ve got it out of sequence or not but decided to back track and see if it was in the area with most water as it made sense  Guess I’m nearly powered up :datass:

The boss after hits hard doesn’t it :dread:

Massively feel like I’ve hit my skill ceiling on this with the Red Chozo Warrior boss fight, it doesn’t help when it feels like a couple of attacks can take off a couple of tanks worth of energy mind, I can almost get through the first phase ok without any damage (or one hit at most) but the second is just annoying the hell out of me. With how much damage Samus takes she may as well just be wearing her Zero Suit for the entirety of the game, I know you got hit hard in Fusion but at least in that you could find 20 extra energy tanks, in this I’m seeing that you can only find 12.

Edit, done now, ended up watching a video that showed how phase shift makes this fight a bit easier.

Finished for the second time this time in 10 hours 54 minutes with 100%

I am sure I could cut it down even more, I even beat the end boss first time on this play through but think I am going to hang up my arm cannon and play something else. Some of the puzzles are hard for me to do not sure if its my reflex's or worn out sticks but it took some messing about.

There is no chance I’ll be going for 100% on this, I’m just hoping not many energy tanks are hid behind shine spark puzzles so I can at least go into the last boss with nearly max health. I can’t wait to see how slow my time is by the time I see the credits

I actually 100%d this, despite getting nowhere near with Zero Mission, which is the only other Metroid I've completed.

Shinesparks seem completely impossible until you really break down the different stages of it. I'd say in the end there were 2 or 3 shinespark puzzles that really challenged me. Worth it to go into that last boss with max health imo

The shinespark puzzles aren't actually that difficult once you figure out exactly what you need to do. They can take a few attempts (some more than others) but they're only difficult in the sense you won't get them straight away. I think i got them all within 5-10 mins of figuring out the path.
