For £80 I'd expect the amiibos to be included. A steel case (which was free with monster Hunter release) an art book and some prints. It's £40 extra for a book and prints.

Still very excited for the game, will probably be my Nintendo Christmas game unless they announce something else.

Wish my image sig would work

The Treehouse for this was something. Something real good.

For £80 it should be one of those big box amiibo sets they did for the Wii U.

Karl_ wrote:Never understood the Hollow Knight hype either, looks like a Newgrounds Flash game to me.

The quintessential Flash animation style that I think of is vector graphics with basic joint rigging. Although it can be an effective style it's very recognisable and has a "puppet" effect on the characters (it is also comparatively easy, especially at its simplest, which is why Flash games carried a wave of stick men games). Hollow Knight isn't like that at all. It has animations hand-drawn frame-by-frame, so rather than vectorised puppets it looks more like a classic cartoon.

In terms of comparable Nintendo efforts, I think I'd point at Wario Land: The Shake Dimension on Wii:

There are stylistic differences, obviously, as Wario Land is brighter and more comedic and with a different setting, but I'd be interested what you think to how that looks - I remember it being praised at the time for its visuals, and I remember thinking it looked great!

To me that's not far removed from Hollow Knight.

Everything from the hand drawn character and environment animations to parallax scrolling backgrounds and lighting effects to me clearly differentiates Hollow Knight from a low effort typical flash game.

To bring it back to Metroid, the perspective switching obviously justifies the 3D visuals and makes the "would it look better in 2D" argument moot, but I do think the style looks pretty vanilla and basic considering what the Switch is capable of.

I'd expect it to be a bit more "special" for £80.

The Samus returns one had a few bits in it (CD, Keychain, Pin Badge, GB Cartridge Tin, 3DS Eshop code for GB original game).

An Art Book, some cards and a Steel Book isn't worth it.

If it had been £60 or £70 I probably would have jumped on it, but not £80.

The steel cases Nintendo have been doing are all now the inferior flat case with a print across it, rather than being embossed, which is also a bit disappointing (they are still fine but not as nice).

That said they have a tendency to add bonus stuff to the special editions in the lead up to release. My Monster Hunter Rise special edition had bonus stuff added to it from what was originally advertised. I wouldn't count on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added some more stuff like stickers or a keyring or something.

Sure - and sorry for giving a short answer to a long post. I didn't play Wario Land Shake It! on the Wii. I don't think it's a very visually appealing game based on the few minutes of gameplay I saw in your video.

Firmly confident that almost all "special editions" are in fact total rip-offs. Who really needs tat like stickers and keyrings.

Usually I'd agree, but my Samus Returns Morphball Key-Chain hasn't been off my keyring in four years.

How you could follow up a Red Dwarf reference with a gif from that Big Bang shite. :capnscotty:

Ugh, I feel physically sick. :dread:

Which is fair enough, I suspected it wouldn't be to your taste - but my point (probably) is that it looks somewhat comparable to Hollow Knight and was praised, not slated, in the gaming press for its visuals.

Arguably though the visuals may have contributed to its lackluster sales! Nintendo haven't made a Wario platformer since :(

I didn't even know they did make a Wario platformer on the Wii!

Is it any good?

No. Looks lovely, plays mediocre from what I remember reading at the time.

OR: was Master of Disguise (which played even worse) before or after Shake Dimension?

Yeah, I've put an order in, but I'd look to get it cheaper, or probably just cancel because it's a ridiculous premium for what's included

Sadly it is, for £80 they really should have included at least one of the 2 available Amiibo which have the unparalleled functionality of upgrading your health by one tank or missile capacity by one depending on which you scan……

Well... I've preordered the special edition that I can simply cancel or flip just like the last one if I get buyers remorse. But that's better than scalpers.

I'm still yet to finish Samus Returns, but Metroid is the closest I have to a complete series in various formats. It's probably because I couldn't afford to keep the pretty decent Samus Returns special edition, I had to sell it which I regret and I didn't even get RRP back for it on ebay so that sucked.

And yeah, even if its not a lot, I plan to frame the holo cards and these things generally keep their value. Five thick and sturdy (as they're part plastic) holo cards is a really nice display piece. The art book has a good number of pages and it does include a retail copy of the game which let's face it, unless this game bombs like Federation Force is going to cost about £40-45 long after release.

I never picked up the NES mini, or the snes mini, or the Mario game and watch. So I've preordered the zelda game and watch too.. Honestly the timer looks neet and perhaps a playful way to help with my time management. That being £45 is more reasonably priced. Both of those NES cartridges in good nick would set you back by the same amount.

Something to display on a kick stand and a pretty kick ass clock. I like that.

As always I treat these things as banks, putting a little money away on something I can just like having. These things aren't £500 wallets :simper:

I guess you have to throw a bit of money at "nice things", if you're like me and don't hoard all of this gooseberry fool and just have 1 or 2 franchises you really love and just looking at those things brings you joy that's cool.

Room filling collections of tat for virtually every other "AAA" game, preordering season passes from multi million studios that still manage to put out a buggy mess every time. Those people, sure, I laugh at them.

Part of the problem etc :shifty:

I'll be keeping an eye on the amiibo too because I really like gawking at my samus returns ones (which I did keep), the squishy metroid is adorable (and the way it's styled it's like a 3D concept art). Both have doubled in value even in just inboxed mint condition.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
