Isn't Sakomoto famously anti-Prime games and basically refuses to acknowledge them.

There's a good chance I'm making this up.

Ah okay, fair enough! I guess even if this "wraps things up" so to speak there's still plenty of time in which to slot new games into the past history of the character.

I'm not a superfan of the series so the answer to this is probably "yes you idiot" but have we ever actually seen her being a bounty hunter?

Usually the idea is that someone is paying her to do this stuff

Not always but often

I thought it looked a bit pump to be honest. The point of Metroid is the exploring, not being chased about all the time.

Oh, I don't know. It's probably one of those games you need to play to see how it is

It’s not all the time just certain areas I think the idea was to make the exploration a bit different

Definitely not true, he worked with Retro in an advisor/supervisor type of role on the Prime games.

He's also been very complimentary about Retro in interviews.

1 she was on a mission from the Galactic Federation.
Prime she was wrapping up the remnants of the pirates, unsure if she was continuing the mission or just doing it for her own goals.
Prime hunters she was called to a system with a bunch of other hunters.
Prime 2 she was responding to a Federation distress signal.
Prime 3 she was working directly with the Federation because that was a problem that needed solving yesterday.
Metroid 2 was on a mission from the Federation
Super Metroid starts just as the Metroid 2 mission ends, so is basically the same mission.
Other M she was responding to a distress signal, and the Federation just happen to also be there so they work together.
Fusion she was working on bodyguard detail for a science team before gooseberry fool hit the fan.

So yeah, most of the time she's either on commission or responding to an SOS. Only time she might be doing her own thing is Prime, and fair enough to just be going after the bounty that the pirates must obviously have in her spare time.

Most of the time things expand beyond the scope of the mission, but the spark is usually "Pay me".

Yeh I just read a massive read thread saying it's all nonsense and he's been very supportive and complimentary of the Prime games.

This basically looks like a new version of Fusion, but with a crappier looking big bad.

SA-X was legit terrifying in that game. There was no way they'd top that.

I must have been playing a different version

SA-X was not scary

SA-X was great, especially the first meeting where I naively thought I could beat it, only to get battered

You mean where it would appear in one room before leaving?

It’s been ages since I played it but you have the option to fight the SA-X quite early on don't you? Obviously can’t do anything to it so running is your best bet but that wasn’t my thought when I first played it!

It’s been ages since I played as well and all I can recall is it leaving rooms. I just don’t recall anything scary

Reposting for truth:

SA-X and Fusion in general are a masterclass in design and atmosphere

Yeah, the one that sold me was the TRO encounter. Just dropping in and going "It's right there? strawberry float...."

Nightmare was also great for floating around early.

SA-X was a lot more impactful in 2002. It wouldn't surprise me if the impact has been lost now that we've seen games increasingly up the ante on threatening looking enemy design and oppressive encounters.

As someone who was a pre-teen back then Fusion and Prime 2 were repectfully some of the most nerve-racking and oppressive games ever made that weren't in the "survival horror" genre.
Both games lost their scare-factor after multiple playthroughs which was inevitable. Now that I am in a point of my life where I've been exposed to the Resident Evil Remakes I don't think any metroid game will have that affect on me ever again.

Playing Fusion on a dark GBA screen where you could barely see anything added to the experience as well!

On emulation it appears way too bright sadly
