Yeah, agreed - Fusion is the closest to Dread and it's also good. The main difference is that Fusion is actually very linear, rather than the kind of perceived linearity you get if you stay on the main path in this.

You could also play Super on Virtual Console.

Finished this last night with 100% of items. Found the final boss a struggle, but in a good way. Satisfying to beat.

8/10 game overall I think. Jenuall's faves brought the experience down for me a bit. Also, it just didn't feel special in the way the best Nintendo games do. That might be partly art design, and partly a certain lack of creativity.

I've been avoiding the discussion in here since launch so I'm guessing they've proven divisive then?

I'm close to giving up on this on the final boss. I'll probably give it a day or two and have another crack, but I'm not sure how much desire I have. Furthest I've got is the 2nd stage, and that took some time.

For the most part I've enjoyed my first Metroid game, but the difficulty spikes on some bosses have hurt that enjoyment.

I've enjoyed the exploration aspect more than the combat, but am going to stop with around 80% of the collectables found, as some are just too difficult for me to get.

Probably an 8 for me at the moment, as it's still a very good, highly polished game. But I like it rather than love it and have enjoyed other Metroidvanias like Guacamelee and Ori more.

It's a pretty tough boss so I can see why it would be frustrating. Hope you get it! Would you like some hints? Or have you tried looking at a YouTube of someone else doing it?

Another 3 goes this evening and Kraid is down :datass: I love the cutscenes in this, the characterisation for Samus is amazing.

They certainly have, including for me. As in, I'm divided on them. My first thought on reaching any EMMI are was always 'Oh great :dread: ' (not the Dread they were after I assume), but there were some real moments of satisfaction there too, and each individual EMMI did get more bearable as I learned its patterns.

I'm a fan of the EMMIs except that purple strawberry floater. I hate him and I hate everything he stands for.

Cheers. I'll definitely give it another few goes before calling it quits.

I've seen a few hints online and on here so will try to apply those next time around.

I think the key takeaway is I'm just not that good at games :slol:

Tried a couple of hours on the NES Metroid and it's bad? Just horrible to try and navigate all the identical corridors.

I didn't realise Zero Mission was a remake. I'll see if I can track it down, thanks!

Zero Mission and Fusion are both well worth playing if you can, both fantastic in my opinion, they were my first 2 Metroid games and still my favourite ones, obviously I’ve not beaten Dread yet but it’s definitely in the same ballpark for myself from what I’ve played so far!

Feel like I’ve made some good progress on this tonight, obviously beaten that boss, defeated the 4th E.M.M.I and picked up the Bombs, Flash Shift, Speed Booster and Grapple Beam, it almost feels like it’s thrown too much at me in the past 90 ish minutes of playing really! Going to wait till I’ve done the next boss (feels like I’m moving towards one) and then go back and see what extras I can pick up, already picked up one item I’ve not got access to yet.

3 EMMI's down now and absolutely loving this! Still a long way to go but unless they strawberry float things up massively later this is comfortably going to be my favourite Switch game of the year so far!

Emmi bits were comfortably the low point, but the rest of it has been great. Really enjoying going aroind the maps now trying to get all the secrets, which is aided massively by the map being great.

Heads up for anyone looking to get all the Extras - they're not shared between files. Gotta do all replays on the same file.

Just finished hard mode in 3:41:04. Now gotta do the same for normal mode and re-100% it cause I did hard mode on a different file lmao
