Took me a few seconds but very nice.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Just picked this up and started it. It's good and all, but it did make me wonder if all the people who were clamouring for a 2D Metroid has played Other M.

The instant death cutscenes from Emmis, coupled with a loading screen are a bit annoying. Jarring and leave the player just a spectator.

They're quick-time events. You can save yourself, it's just really tricky timing. But otherwise yes, they are a little annoying.

It feels great when you do get the timing just right.

I think I countered one E.M.M.I throughout my playtime, the timing is ridiculously small. Obviously it needed to be to try and instil the dread of running into one, but considering how some of them too the mess anyway, getting then one shotted 99% of the time got a bit tiring. Did the rookie mode change anything with the E.M.M.I’s? I don’t recall they mentioned it when it came out.

You can, but the timing is deliberately very tricky to pull off consistently (for obvious reasons, otherwise there'd be no danger) and you might get it 1/20 times.

So for the other ones, you're basically left with having to watch a cutscene before getting to restart. And then you restart outside the EMMI zone so your punishment or the affect of all this fear and menace is you're made to backtrack. It just doesn't really come together for me. Fear just leads to mild annoyance and irritation. Which wasn't what Yoda said.

It typically leads to sobbing, the foetal position, and involuntary bowel movements for me. Not exclusively in that order. I'm almost certain Yoda didn't say that either.

Similar to the reasons that I do what I do.

Finally beat this last night. Restarted a playthrough as I'd previously gotten to the final boss but couldn't beat it.
Think I enjoyed it a lot more this second time round. The EMMI zones still annoyed me in places but not as much as before.
Hopefully it's not 19 years until Metroid 6!

Wonder if we'll get a new 2D Metroid next year. There was 4 years between Samus Returns and Dread so I think it's possible for Switch 2.

I loved Dread and I would love to see a new one sometime in the early days of Switch 2.

Felt so good 8-)

Must be really close to the end now so I've been doing a quick tour of the world trying to mop some upgrades up. I'm sure there must be some other skill to get because I just can't work out a few. The timings for some are really tight. :dread:

If there is greater feeling of power in gaming then Samus with the wave beam and screw attack I don't know what it is. :datass:
