Mine too although there isn't a huge amount of competition...
It's currently at fourth on my list. Y'all need to play more good games.
Jenuall wrote:I've actually only bought 4 games on Switch this year:
Metroid Dread Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Football Manager Touch 2021
It's on course for being the worst Switch year overall for me so far. Dread has done a fair amount to redeem it to be fair
Blimey, no wonder you think that with that selection! Mario 3D World might sneak into the bottom of my top 20!
site23 wrote:Go on then Balla, post your top 3! What are your Dread-killers?!
The House in Fata Morgana The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles And miles ahead of anything else and into my Top 25 Games Ever Right Now list, NEO The World Ends With You.
Dread at 4, the ace little point-and-click There Is No Game at 5. It's not been a great year for Switch games but it's no 2020.
Managed to complete this today! Took another half a dozen or so attempts at the last boss, but I got there, in no small part due to some tips in this discussion.
I managed to get the first stage down easily. The second I would still have some issues dodging the lasers and the dash attack. Third was a cake walk with the advice about the power bomb. Glad I switched from handheld to docked with the pro controller as well!
Ended with 82% items and a play time of 10 hours 42 mins.
Overall I'm sticking with my score of 8/10. A great game and I'm happy to have played my first Metroid. Difficulty spikes did hamper my enjoyment though and I've preferred other Metroidvanias. I don't think this will feature in potential game of the year lists for me, as I've preferred It Takes Two, Ratchet and Psychonauts 2 in 2021. Maybe the Switch game of the year I suppose.

You like what you like, of course! I'm only messing with you. To be serious, I'm not actually against visual novels or anything, but I don't think I would personally enjoy Fata Morgana - it sounds pretty heavy.
Balladeer wrote:And I don't understand that viewpoint at all! Ah well. Just as long as you acknowledge you're the problem, not the games.
Ace Attorney is a franchise that's just not for me, I've tried a couple and bounced off them hard.
NEO I've never tried but again everything I've seen of the games makes me think I'd be wasting my money
Fata Morgana is a visual novel I believe? It's a genre that's again not one I have found any time traction with in the past
As for point and click games I genuinely think I burned myself out on them during the Amiga heyday, I used to play a huge number but can't seem to get back into them now. Maybe one day!
Switch is still by far my favourite console of the last few generations, and I'm sure I'll pick up some more excellent 2021 titles in the fullness of time, it's just been a bit of an initially underwhelming time based on what I've been tempted into buying so far
I didn't want to bully Ace Attorney or NEO as I realise those are actually pretty big releases if you're into the franchises. Actually, I've been thinking of trying Ace Attorney as I keep seeing really funny clips of it.
My impression is that the Switch schedule has been a bit meatier if you're into JRPG / VN style stuff. Or (shudder) indie games.
I think the Switch has had a year of long-awaited sequels, and Dread of course fits right into that:
New Pokemon Snap - Sequel to a game from 1999 Metroid Dread - Sequel to a game from 2002 Neo The World Ends With You - Sequel to a game from 2008 No More Heroes 3 - Sequel to a game from 2010 Fuga: Melodies of Steel - Sequel to a game from 2010
For me Metroid is the one there I have been least waiting on!
Edit: Warioware on home console feels like it fits too, and Advance Wars is a remake but still a long-awaited return
I'm up to the last section now and am feeling as though the climax is fast approaching. That section just after acquiring the cross-bomb kinda stumped me - it's probably the least intuitive section I've encountered so far.
My misses was playing Animal crossing and I was doing pretty much nothing so thought what the heck and put Dread on and started from scratch again 2hours and 10 minutes later and I know I played it badly first time around and wasted a lot of time by playing it tired, seriously sometimes I was so tired from work and not enough sleep my eyes were trying to close
In this time I have found 19% of stuff , got the missiles, charge beam, wide beam, morph ball, ball bombs, heat suit, cloak, shift and the run .....yeah yeah I dont remember the names all the time so make my own up lol , I also beat the emi's and bosses I have met first or second time, I am never going to be a spead runner I dont have the patience but I think my finishing time would have been a lot better if I had only ever played it while well rested, I also seriously didnt realise I could go on the map and get it to like highlight all spots that needed a charge beam and such etc
