Yeah I agree.

At first he feels way too quick but once you break it down and understand the tells and get into the rhythm it's not too difficult at all.

Very generous with health and ammo refills too.

Yeah this surprised me, I think there was only one phase where it didn't offer you an opportunity to stock up.

I actually think it's a contender for being my favourite Metroid boss - the fact it requires you to use so many of your moves and powers if you want to really take control of the battle just feels so satisfying

The bosses in this are brilliant to be fair, and I think the final one is the pick of the bunch

The only bit I didn't like about the bosses was the 'pink waves' of the one wrapped around the thermal generator. Otherwise they were top, including the final boss.

I nearly smashed my Switch into the wall on that one.

It didn't help I was missing the melee counter opportunity that gives you ammo and health refills which makes that boss a lot harder let me tell you :slol: :fp:

So I managed to leave myself with just one item to get in one area and about half in the area with my ship, accidentally stumbled into the final boss so reset to my save point to go get the other items, but that final boss cutscene was incredible to start with. Wow.

The item I'm missing in one area is a shinespark puzzle and I have absolultely no idea how to do it. Most of them with some thought I can kinda figure out how you get the initial speed boost but on this one I've got no idea.

I had to look up how to do one shinespark in the end as it didn't seem possible (turned out I had the right idea but was just getting the execution wrong) - overall I think they are a nice extra optional challenge, but do feel some of the specific mechanics around the move could have been better introduced in a more organic way - some of it really does seem to rely on you just knowing stuff that is never explained.

Other people have mentioned it before but in case you aren't aware of the various shinespark techniques:
- You can shinespark from the morph ball
- Sliding and jumping while boost-running maintains the boost as long as you continue the momentum after finishing the slide/jump (this includes wall jumps)
- If you shinespark into a slidey-slope, it sends you back into a boost run up the slope, and you can then re-store a shinespark when you reach the top

Hopefully that helps, some of the later shinespark puzzles are a proper ballache to figure out admittedly

Yeah spotting the counter chances makes a huge difference to some bosses.

The pink waves would have been much easier if the jumping mechanics were a bit more refined/forgiving I think

My main issue was hitting the second jump too early and it not registering.

I managed to figure out all the shinespark puzzles without a guide, which I'm actually super proud of (sad I know! ). It took a fair bit of experimentation. But to be fair I did read the tips above when they were posted earlier in the thread. Pretty sure I wouldn't have figured out all the possible "extra" moves you can do with shinesparks without that little push in the right direction!

I think the extra moves would be okay unexplained if it encouraged you to experiment and gave you a few hints.

Allllll the time, especially during the last boss :x

I didn't look up any solutions, but I did look up the various shine spark rules, some of which I'd never have worked out, especially if you spark in to a ramp from the air, you'll go in to a full speed run at the top of it, allowing you to chain a few together.

I think the only boss fights I didn’t like on reflection were the water one and the electric bug, the latter especially as i just couldn’t work out it’s pattern to actually try and dodge around it. Pink wave one I enjoyed except the actual pink wave bit  Thinking about it a bit more as well, the final boss is really great, such a feeling of satisfaction when you finally beat it.

I will agree with Jenuall though, on first playthrough at least this hasn’t dethroned Fusion from the top, I’d probably need to play them both back to back to see which I prefer, out of the 3 2D Metroid games I’ve played, it’s hard to rank them really, Zero Mission, Fusion and Dread are all fantastic.

Thanks for this explanation without spoilers, as the ones with the Missile+ tanks for example made no strawberry floating sense otherwise.

100% clear for the first time ever in a Metroid game. Recency bias I guess but this was genuinely an incredible game and I loved every second of it.

Releasing a demo for a game which has been out for weeks and is a massive seller is peak Nintendo.

Peak Nintendo would be making it a limited use demo, accessible only through using an Amiibo that has sold out everywhere.

It's been reported before that demos can actually harm sales, releasing one now seems like it might be a compromise on a) not putting people off who and bought the game in release hype, and b) selling the game to people who have been hesitant
