Got three artifacts to go. Weirdly, my logbook has ?????? for the missing entries yet I've scanned all of that area. I may be misremembering how this works.

Last boss is a strawberry floater  I died the first time so had to do that whole section over again but I just barely got it the second time round

I’ll probably try and get it finished off tomorrow evening/when I’m off on Tuesday. I remember the last boss being a little easier than the one before it though? Not played it since it came out on the Wii U though so may be remembering wrongly!

Sometimes I'm very wrong. Although I did kind of justify £35 for the physical copy as costing less as I can trade it in later. Just played through the opening section and this is exactly how you do a remaster. It plays like I've always remembered it playing on the cube, which, after playing that recently through emulation, isn't how it played (those controls were strawberry floating awful). This is perfect.

One question, was the sound design this good in the original? I really don't remember that but here it's amazing.

It was the second phase of the last boss that caused me grief I eventually worked out that you needed to switch between different visors to see the boss but sometimes I would do that but the boss would actually be directly behind me. It also spawns little Metroids which can be annoying unless you take them out quickly whilst you are in hypermode.

Overall I loved the game and being able to experience it again in HD on a handheld was glorious  2 things I wish they had done though

- Fast travel between save points/checkpoints, there were some sections where you had big gaps between save points that it would have been nice to have had at least one checkpoint marker in the middle so that if you die you didn’t lose all that progress like I did in Phazon Mines

- Controls, when I unlocked all the visors and weapons it became really fiddly equipping beams on the fly. Multiple times I hit X and a direction on the D Pad only for it to not recognise the X press and would switch visors instead throwing me off. Think they could have worked them a bit better.

Yes. The sound design and music always made a vital contribution to the "atmosphere" the game was always so praised for creating.

Finished it this morning. 9 hours, I think something like a 80% completion.

Well done Squinty and Milner.

I like this game again now! Got all the artifacts, eventually beat Wriggly and on the final boss. Going to pick this up later as I spent many attempts and a long time on the penultimate boss.

It think my end of game stats will look quite similar to you Milner, also around 60-odd% completion and about 14 hours......but my Switch play activity is showing way more hours than that, so a lot of map staring!

Yeah, my Switch hasn’t told me my playtime on that yet as it’s been less than 10 days since I started it. Be interesting to see how it differs.

I think fast travel is probably an even bigger no no than my want for a NG+ where I can just wreck everything from the start, but still have to beat all the bosses etc to still complete it again.

Definitely done that with the visors too, wasn’t sure if it was me just trying to swap beams too quick though

Totally agree with how fiddly the controls are in this.

I think one of the few changes I’d have liked to have seen is the option to put marks on your map so you can place where the items are (if you’re using a guide) or think of poses the artefacts could be before you start looking for them.

As someone mentioned earlier, there's an option in the menu to swap buttons so that ball-jump is on R and missiles on X, and it makes super-missiling (amongst other things) much easier. Probably too late for you guys to benefit/unlearn your muscle memory though?!

I did missiles on X, helps a lot with super missiles like you say.

Where is this? I can't find it in the menu.

Yeah, I couldn't find this either. The only control swap I could see was moving the beam selector to right bumper from X.

All energy tanks and 7/12 artefacts got, luckily I can remember where most of them are, just got the ones from Phendrana Dirfts and going to do the Phazon Mines next as that’s by far the worst area.

Edit, all artefacts are now in my possession :toot: Will probably get it finished off tomorrow, or might try and get Ridley done tonight at least.

Edit, got down to the last stage of it easily, couldn’t remember how to stun it (consistently anyway) for the life of me.

That might be it. It's Swap Beam And Missile or something like that, then select 'Yes'. It swaps missiles onto X which is much better for the combo needed for super missile (instead of remembering to use A instead of right trigger just for super missiling).

Ridley down on the second attempt, now onto the final section.

Edit, and done, what a superb game :datass: I was slow though, 72% of items in 14:46
