Anything to do with games at all.

I'm fine with adverts in sports game when they are on the pitchside hoardings or on the players shirts. That's accurate.

I certainly don't want the "realism" of advert breaks like I'm watching Sky Sports

Exactly. We don't want the bad parts of the experience

 Phil Neville and Jamie Carragher spend the next thirty minutes analysing each of the ten goals you conceded in your last online match, complete with 2 advert breaks for betting companies and beer.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I'd be okay with it for realism only if the adverts were entirely fictional

If I only conceded 10, then I have massively improved. :datass:

Fifa 2022 to feature a giant holographic Ray Winstone floating over the pitch, offering live odds updates. Just open your bet365 app for in play betting.

Debt consolidation plan DLC available at launch!

I'm surprised FIFA haven't tried implementing a betting feature into the online to be honest.

Presumably the only reason is because actual full fat betting would net it an 18 certificate, and tank them sales wise.

Of course, didn't consider that

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020 ... -in-canada

The plaintiffs are seeking everything EA made through loot boxes since 2008 in damages, so if the suit was to be successful, it's safe to say EA would have to pay a whole lot of money.

They won't get that, but can you imagine...

Oh, yeah, here we go!

Epic is looking at introducing a paid monthly subscription for Fortnite.

AAA gaming: £70 + monthly sub + battle pass per character + in-game monetary systems :toot:

To be fair, Fortnite is free to download and with the way they continually update the game, a monthly subscription model would make sense and could be done fairly. Of course, they could very easily take the piss with it.

games industry.biz wrote:According to EA's annual reports, Ultimate Team modes made up 27% of EA's net revenue for its last fiscal year, or $1.49 billion.

I knew that EA's Ultimate Team modes in their sports games were money-spinners, but I hadn't realised just what a large proportion of EA's income they represent. I guess it's no wonder that EA is gradually releasing fewer and less interesting games each year*; as a business, Ultimate Team is proving to provide tons of income and so why would they take monetary risks with other titles?

* This is my feeling rather than fact but a quick scan of Wikipedia appears to back up this thought.

Ubisoft has just added payable XP boosts to the in-game store for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Ubisoft wrote:Utilities allow players who lack the time to fully explore the world of Assassin's Creed Valhalla to be able to acquire the game’s best gear, as well as other items, by accelerating their progress. For instance, these players can purchase maps that uncover some interesting locations in the world, but would still have to visit and play them to get their rewards.

It seems surprising to think that some folk may purchase maps to access locations and then pay out cash rather than actually playing those areas. To "save time"... so they"re buying a game and then paying out more money not to play it?

Then again, the first responder in PushSquare's report on this responded with:

Who cares? You aren’t obligated to buy it. It’s completely optional. I just spent $10 on it just to spite all the media complaining about it now I can power level away with ease.

Fair enough. But instantly spending ten dollars "just to spite all the media"? .

Something being optional does not mean it's excused for being bad or generally unfriendly to the consumer.

If you went to a restaurant with a salad bar and it offered the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. but also there was a massive bowl full of freshly squeezed out steaming gooseberry fool, you'd probably think there was something a little bit off not "well they aren't making me eat it, so it's perfectly alright, it's there if people want it".

Also you don't need to be particularly insightful to worry about the fact that the people offering the solution to a level grind are also the people designing that level grind.

So it's less a salad bar with an optional bowl of gooseberry fool, but more the staff are serving your salad and dishing it out for you, and they'll automatically give you a scoop or two of pulped out human pap and then you have to pay extra for them to remove it if you'd rather not have it on your plate.

I love how they dress it up as just a helpful thing for players who don't have much time. They could just make it an in-game option for people to level up quickly.
