AAA gaming: £70 + monthly sub + battle pass per character + in-game monetary systems :toot:

To be fair, Fortnite is free to download and with the way they continually update the game, a monthly subscription model would make sense and could be done fairly. Of course, they could very easily take the piss with it.

Ubisoft has just added payable XP boosts to the in-game store for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Something being optional does not mean it's excused for being bad or generally unfriendly to the consumer.

If you went to a restaurant with a salad bar and it offered the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. but also there was a massive bowl full of freshly squeezed out steaming gooseberry fool, you'd probably think there was something a little bit off not "well they aren't making me eat it, so it's perfectly alright, it's there if people want it".

Also you don't need to be particularly insightful to worry about the fact that the people offering the solution to a level grind are also the people designing that level grind.

So it's less a salad bar with an optional bowl of gooseberry fool, but more the staff are serving your salad and dishing it out for you, and they'll automatically give you a scoop or two of pulped out human pap and then you have to pay extra for them to remove it if you'd rather not have it on your plate.

I love how they dress it up as just a helpful thing for players who don't have much time. They could just make it an in-game option for people to level up quickly.
