Absolutely scathing write up.

“Today, it’s all about Xbox 360,” droned Mattrick, kicking off what’s best described as an excellent advert for gaming on PC.

outoftime101 wrote:I think that the whole MS don't give a stuff about gamers/have lost their mojo comments are a little premature, though it is clear that MS see a lot of future revenue coming from he entertainment sector as time progresses. What I take from the dearth of games and new IP is that the next box will definitely be with us next year. Lots of MS's internal studios have been quiet for quite some time and one imagines that they are busy getting their games into shape for the launch of the next box, hence a natural lull in output.

The simple truth may be that if we are now entering the 18 month countdown for the release of nextbox, the now large install base and consistent 3rd party support will likely sustain the 360 at a decent level for a good 24-36 months yet, even without too many big name 1st party IPs from MS. Factor in an agressive price cut and you can see that in this sense MS can afford to move its focus elsewhere whist still seeing the 360 off into a graceful retirement instead of being dragged out the back and shot after the fashion in which the original Xbox met its end.

Of course the nextbox could be on for a 2014 release in which case my 360, easily my most played console this gen, may just start to gather dust this time next year.

Good post, I've been saying a similar thing for a while.

360 has no gamez!!

2011 - wins best major publisher at metacritic - http://www.gamezone.com/news/microsoft- ... shers-list
2012 so far -

360 has 8 console exclusives above 75% at Metacritic (Minecraft, Trials, Fez, Witcher 2, Sine Mora, Double Fine Happy Action Theater, Quarrel, Alan Wake's American Nightmare)

PS3 has 7 (Starhawk, Journey, MLB 12, Jack and Daxter, Closure, Warp, Twisted Metal)

Wii has 3 (Xenoblade, Rhythm Heaven Fever, The Last Story)

Please no more of this rubbish.

I recall you making a post about all Microsoft making is "Forza, Gears, Fable, Halo". I doubted you at the time, but here we are.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

That's why I put console exclusive, they've sold pretty well anyway so many gamers enjoying them. Even if you take them away that a massive 2 less than Sony. A good game is a good game however it's released.

Not only are Microsoft and Sony running with their tails between their legs trying to grab a slice of the preverbial casual pie, they're also copying their gooseberry fool conferences from a few years ago.

For the first time in years I watched it without GRcade open and with pretty low expectations.

I thought it was slightly better than last year although still not great, started well enough Halo 4 looks brilliant and 343 seem to be putting their own mark on it. I loved the look of Splinter Cell and it looked great fun to play from what they showed.

Kinect I wasn't bothered about but Madden 13 caught my eye as the speed and animation looked a big step up from the footage, Gears can't fail and the gameplay footage looked like PCF can add their mark to it. Tomb Raider looked like a true reboot and I'm interested again in the franchise whilst RE6 looked slightly underwhelming but I'll still be getting it. Forza looked different but a bit NFS, but at least it will be different and Fable looked awful.

So yes it is Halo/Gears/Forza again but since they are all being done by different devs I can live with it and I think they will be different.

Black Ops is all about the multiplayer so how the Campaign looks which wasn't great doesn't bother me. Looked like the new stuff will be XBLA which as with Minecraft, Fez, Trials and Sine Mora has shown is no bad thing, top quality gaming.

Most concerning thing for me was if you remember the original Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Splinter Cell and Gears they were very different games, now they seem to be blending into one game, very linear and very scripted and very similar graphics and gameplay, that is a worry.

More to the point was picking up on what wasn't there, Rare for starters who have had very little prescence for the last two shows. They must be hard at work on Nextbox and after the job adverts it will be the launch line up for core gamers I'm sure. Perfect Dark 2 WILL be at the next E3. No Turn 10 either, PGR for Nextbox? Could be, those franchises will benefit from launch hype rather than being hit by the small installed base like Gears and Halo would.

So overall 5/10, next year will be better, no doubt.
