Microsoft acquire ZeniMax Media. Sounds like everything will be exclusive to Game Pass platforms.

Anything to do with games at all.

Where are you playing exclusive Bethesda games in the future?

Bethesda Game Studios?

Every one of their games for at least the last decade has looked appalling.

I would call them janky but with striking panoramas. Like the textures might be muddy and the animations wooden but I still find appeal in being halfway up a mountain and looking out across the landscape in Skyrim, so I can't say it looks bad. Like the gameplay itself you have to look at it from a distance.

It's just a bit frustrating that it's so far from release.
I think even 2022 may be a bit optimistic.

It was 4 years between Skyrim & Fallout 4 so its looking like 2025 for Elder Scrolls if Starfield does come out this year. Maybe if they go on a hiring spree like the other new and old MS studios then you can knock a year off that.

Checking over the main games published by Bethesda during the past ten years, I'm not sure that I'd use the description of "appalling" to describe their appearance:

Skyrim (2011)
Fallout 4 (2015)
Skyrim Special Edition (2016)
Skyrim VR (2017)
Fallout 4 VR (2017)
Fallout 76 (2018)

I'd go along with OrangeRKN in saying they're a bit janky - and the gameplay clunky - but in terms of the graphical scope, vistas and environments I don't think I've played (on my PS4) too many titles that rival them during this period. Mad Max looks terrific at times, GTA V is very impressive and I've yet to try The Witcher 3 or Ghosts of Tsushima but, even so, I couldn't really say the BGS games look appalling.

I stand by it, but will also accept the term janky as strawberry float

I hope they announce an Atari ST shapped XSX.

That would sell about 300m units.

Given how critically acclaimed Death Stranding was and how quickly he turned it out 'stealing a living' seems a stretch. I mean I thought it was dump, but apparently I hate everything.

I don't see why they would though, with one game every 3/4 years which is never going to be a huge seller it doesn't seem like there'd be much return on investment.

MGS 2 and 3 are 'critically acclaimed' and awful IMO.

I reckon announced or soon to be announced games will hit PS5, Starfield, TES and Fallout 5 will have maybe a year exclusivity on Xbox/PC and a few others will be fully exclusive. It doesn't matter too much to me as all past and future titles hit Gamepass. :toot:

I'll be surprised if Microsoft are willing to pay out that kinda money and have games published on platforms other than Xbox and PC. I know that Minecraft is still published on other formats and, as others have said, it seems that Zenimax/Bethesda games already out or announced will appear on them, too; but the longer term goal will likely be that games only appear on MS platforms.

I guess in the shorter term the Xbox / PC options will appear more attractive anyway; paying £15 a month for Game Pass looks good compared to £65 for buying one game on PS5.

The opposite argument is that if they are paying out that kind of money surely they want to maximise their returns which means releasing on as many platforms as they can. As you say game pass is already a huge differentiator if the next TES launches on it but is £60+ on PS5. Why not happily take that £60 from a diehard PS fan too? Exclusives are about selling consoles but I think MS are more concerned with selling game pass subs.

I think they're going to release the big titles on PS5 but with timed Xbox exclusivity.

True, Orange - and I'm someone who isn't really that keen on the subscription option. Even so, I'd imagine that MS would rather folk spent that money on Game Pass rather than buying the game on PS5; as you say, getting people to pay monthly over a long period of time is their aim.
