Microsoft acquire ZeniMax Media. Sounds like everything will be exclusive to Game Pass platforms.

Anything to do with games at all.

Where are you playing exclusive Bethesda games in the future?

Announcement should be imminent, but don't be surprised if they put it off for a little while longer.

These guys have got a few things right in the past, they say on their podcast at least 2 more studios to come -

After 15mins.

While Phil Spencer was at the till, waiting to pay for Zenimax, he impulse-purchased Square Enix and Capcom.

The absolute scenes if Microsoft buy even one large Japanese developer.

One year open beta for Xbox owners giving them plenty of time to patch out the inevitable major bugs :slol:

Still Bethesda though. They will patch in new ones. :capnscotty:

I don't know if buying a Japanese dev will do much for them in all honesty.

They pushed hard on the Japanese side of things at the start of the 360 gen, locking in games like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Dead or Alive, Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, Last Remnant, confirming that FF13 would not be a PlayStation exclusive etc. The audiences for these games just don't seem to want to buy them on a Microsoft machine.

Codemasters or Ubisoft for Microsoft.

I could also see Sony being more like asset strippers of licenses to compete. For example taking Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and THIS IS FOOTBALL PES off of Konami.

Sony were also stupid to shutter Sony Liverpool & Evolution Studios.

I would say it’d be huge for them to get someone like Codemasters with their current trend of great racing games and them getting the official WRC licence in 2023 but then they’ve just spent inane amounts on ZeniMax so Codemasters would probably be cheap as chips in company

Would Codemasters be that big a get? Not sure racing games are system sellers.

The advantage of Codemasters going forward is the official licence for F1 and WRC, alongside their acquisition of other developers such Slightly Mad Studios and I can’t quite remember if they just got some staff from the people behind Driveclub or bought that studio out as well. Racing games aren’t system sellers but would be a good grab nonetheless in my opinion.

Don’t they usually have some sort of clause in contracts for official licenses that they need to be multiplatform? Isn’t that what happened with the new MLB contract?

Yeah generally license holders aren't going to want you to reduce sales potential just so you can sell more consoles

MS got a Japanese Dev yesterday in Evil Within dev Tango.

Asobo have a 10yr contract for Flight Sim and are making something else for another publisher but I wouldn’t rule them out. Plague’s Tale 2 and maybe Recore 2 would be good additions.

Maybe The Medium devs now that contract has run out.

No they wouldn’t be exclusive to Xbox but they’d be on Game Pass day 1 rather than how the current F1 games work in that once the new game releases, the previous years goes on Game Pass.
