Video quality took a dip fairly often, but was mostly mitigated by the B&W pixel artstyle. Likely something to do with our Sky router and the mixing of 2/5ghz bands, but I can't be arsed fiddling with it.

Works really well with the 8BitDo SF30 Pro, but it's a bit top heavy on the clip, so I might look for one that fits on the Xbone pad.

My S8 is nearly three years old now though, so the arse falls right out of the battery! :slol:

Follow-up to this:
I separated the 2/5Ghz bands on my router, and now it plays buttery smooth- nary a stutter or tear in sight. :datass:

I also remembered that I can plug my phone into my Genki Switch dock to use Samsung Dex, which means I can play on my TV upstairs! :toot:

I was with Sky up until a week ago and Xcloud was pretty bad visually, blocky and juddery. That was also after separating the bands. Even.with the new company it runs like ass. No idea how to get it running better :(

Microsoft’s head of gaming and Xbox, Phil Spencer, has hinted that the company is planning TV streaming sticks for its xCloud cloud gaming service. In an interview with Stratechery, Spencer discusses the potential for additional tiers of Xbox Game Pass, which could include a free bundled TV stick to play xCloud games.

“I think you’re going to see lower priced hardware as part of our ecosystem when you think about streaming sticks and other things that somebody might want to just go plug into their TV and go play via xCloud,” says Spencer. “You could imagine us even having something that we just included in the Game Pass subscription that gave you an ability to stream xCloud games to your television and buying the controller.”

Spencer also teases the potential for an “Xbox Game Pass Platinum” with guaranteed access to new Xbox hardware. Microsoft has been bundling Xbox subscriptions and hardware together in something called Xbox All Access, which includes access to Xbox Game Pass and the latest Xbox Series X and Series X consoles. It’s a bundle that Spencer is obviously keen to experiment with in the future.

The idea of an Xbox game streaming TV stick isn’t a new one for Microsoft. The software giant was preparing lightweight Xbox streaming devices back in 2016, but it canceled the hardware. Microsoft has been investigating streaming sticks and hardware ever since the company originally demonstrated Halo 4 streaming from the cloud to Windows and Windows Phones all the way back in 2013.

Spencer’s first public mention of Xbox streaming TV sticks implies the hardware could be ready soon, though. Microsoft has so far only bundled xCloud game streaming with its highest Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier ($14.99 per month). There’s certainly room for additional tiers, and easier access to the service beyond just Android devices.

Microsoft partnered with Samsung earlier this year for xCloud, and it’s only a matter of time before we see the company’s game streaming service appear on Samsung TVs. 2021 could be an interesting year for xCloud, especially as Microsoft is planning to upgrade its server blades to the more capable Xbox Series X hardware. We should also start to see xCloud appear on Facebook Gaming next year.

Microsoft is also working on a web-based iOS solution for xCloud that will debut in early 2021. Spencer confirms our recent report on this iOS workaround in the Stratechery interview, but warns that not being in the App Store is still a challenge for xCloud. “We have a good solution on iOS that I think it’ll be coming kind of early next year, I feel good about the solution that we have,” says Spencer.

Having Game Pass streaming as a smart TV app could be huge, but it would be a shame if their deal saw it limited to Samsung sets.

I mean the whole line from Spencer has been that they want to get the content in front of as many people as possible so I would be surprised if they did lock it to one TV manufacturer, or if they did it wouldn't be for long

Exclusive: First hands-on with xCloud Xbox game streaming for PC

We've been hands-on with xCloud for PC, and it's awesome.

Project xCloud is the codename of Microsoft's cloud streaming game platform for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, letting you stream console-quality games to any device. The service is now available on Android, but is expected to come to iOS and PC in the future. And today, we've had our first-hands on session with Project xCloud streaming running on a Surface Pro X.

Project xCloud on PC looks and functions in almost the exact same way it does on Android, scaling easily to meet larger displays. The app we've been using is designed for internal testing, and it comes with all the same features from the Xbox Game Pass app on Android, including touch controls, which is ideal if you're using a Surface device and you don't have an Xbox controller handy or one of the clips from our best xCloud Xbox controller phone clips round up. Even if you have a capable PC, streaming console games to a PC also has some other small benefits, including less susceptibility to hackers and cheaters vs. online PC counterparts, and the ability to scale a window more easily without using some third-party software like the Borderless Gaming app on Steam.

The live footage was demonstrated by our Windows Editor Zac Bowden, who is using 200 MB standard internet from a domestic ISP. The controls were responsive and felt near-native, with very little artifacting in the video feed.

We expect Project xCloud will be baked directly into the new Windows 10 Xbox app eventually, similarly to how it's baked into the Xbox Game Pass app on Android. It might look a little differently from how it's presented in the video as a result, but the functionality will remain the same.

Microsoft hints at turning Xbox into an app for your TV

You should be able to stream Xbox games to your TV soon

Microsoft is in the early phases of rolling out its xCloud streaming service on mobile devices, but TVs are the next logical step. In an interview with The Verge, Xbox chief Phil Spencer has revealed we’ll likely see an Xbox app appear on smart TVs over the next year. “I think you’re going to see that in the next 12 months,” said Spencer, when asked about turning the Xbox into a TV app. “I don’t think anything is going to stop us from doing that.”

Cloud gaming (beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate coming to iOS and PC in 2021

Expanding Xbox to new players is central to our ambition of helping games and developers find an easy path to the world’s 3 billion gamers. We are doing this by embracing multiple devices and providing a consistent Xbox experience wherever you log in, whether that’s on your Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox One, Android device or – starting in Spring 2021 – your Windows PC and iOS device from the cloud.

In Spring 2021, we will take the next step in our journey to reach more players around the world by making cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate available on Windows PCs through the Xbox app and browser, and iOS devices through mobile web browser. By adding over a billion devices as a path to playing in the Xbox ecosystem, we envision a seamless experience for all types of players; whether it’s playing Minecraft Dungeons with your Xbox friends using touch controls on an iPhone, or jumping into a Destiny 2: Beyond Light strike on a Surface Pro when you have a break between meetings.

Whatever screen you choose, we want to make it easy to continue your game and connect with your friends.

Finally, we’ll bring cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to new markets, including Australia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico, where we recently began our limited Project xCloud preview program.

We can’t wait to share more early next year about our cloud gaming ambitions and how you can expect to take your gaming experiences further.

Rumours -

- Xcloud coming to PC in Spring still, coming 'sooner rather than later'
- Opened for preview to wide demographic
- Works w/ Edge/Chrome (chromium engine), safari unknown, same w/ firefox
- Doesnt look like it will coming w/ an app, will be coming in a browser most likely, unknown whats going to come with the previously leaked Xcloud PC App
- Should just be able to log into a browser (speculation)
- Latency feels about good as it does on an Android
- iOS update: further behind still

If it’s browser-based, does that mean it will also run on a Mac?

I'm not too knowledgeable about the full tech but I understand that xCloud will - at present - only run on "Chomium" based browsers such as (surprise!) Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. I don't think that Safari or Firefox will be supported; at least initially.

It's interesting as it seems that xCloud will operate in a similar fashion to Stadia. Generally folk haven't been too keen on that and it'll be intriguing to see if perceptions change for the Microsoft version. And, of course, I believe that Sony are in a partnership with Microsoft to share/develop cloud-based gaming functionality so I'd anticipate that Sony's offering (or development of PS Now) could be very similar to Microsoft's approach.

The pricing is the most off-putting thing about Stadia though. Game Pass is pretty insane value in comparison, and streaming is an optional feature of that.

Yeah Microsoft's offer of "pay a subscription fee and get access to all of this content wherever you are and whatever device you are using" is considerably more compelling that what Stadia is giving people.

The average punter understands the Netflix model so a more direct translation of that into the world of gaming stands a far better chance of gaining traction IMO.

Yeah, the business model is a lot different than Stadia and it'll have the whatever the % GPU is of 20 million Game Pass users available to use it for "free". With the Series X servers not coming until later this year I don't expect it'll have the best 1st impression for PC users though.

Good news as I assume this is without the XSX servers.
