Ok, so deciphering that it means you can use xCloud for streaming of digital Xbox games you've purchased, or games included Game Pass, if you have a subscription. No confirmation one way or the other on whether you can stream games straight from the cloud, like Stadia and PS Now without having to own an Xbox console, although that seems probable.

My first thought is that Microsoft would naturally be cautious in making their games available without their hardware as they risk cannibalising their console sales, but looking at PS Now it doesn't seem to be a concern for Sony. Longterm, If Microsoft and Sony are making minimal profit on hardware then ultimately it will make sense to be able to accrue subscription funds without the expense of selling units. Interesting times.

RIP Stadia.

Pretty sure A Gamepass Ultimate subscription means you can use Xcloud and buy games too, that, if you get an Xbox will be ready to download. tbh, just playing all my games at relatively no extra charge is a big big win for me.

You can stream from your console (using it as your own personal server) or you can stream from the cloud with no console needed, just a MS account.

I can't find an email, but the xcloud preview app seems to work for me.

NVM, it's a game streaming preview thing.

Microsoft “in talks” for Project xCloud exclusive games

Microsoft has also added new APIs to the Xbox SDK to make it easier to develop games intended for streaming.

Microsoft is “in talks” with first- and third-party studios to create and release Project xCloud exclusive games.

Microsoft’s Kareem Choudhry made the confirmation at X019 in London as part of a group interview with Australian outlets, stressing that there weren’t any title-specific announcements to make at this time.

“In terms of [Project xCloud] exclusives, we’re in early talks with first- and third- parties, but we don’t have any announcements to share,” Choudhry asserted. “New content and IP takes eighteen months to two years [to develop].”

Choudry stressed that “the first thing that we’re doing is… just lifting and shifting content that doesn’t require any development changes into the cloud. So right away we’ve got a platform that can run any of the 3000 games you can run on Xbox today.”

That said, Choudhry said that specific APIs have been added to the Xbox SDK to let a game “know at runtime [if it is] being streamed or not.”

Calling the functionality “cloud aware,” Choudhry said the APIs enable developers “to make any changes that they want, specific to streaming — things like changing the font sizes or… changing some of their networking code to account for the fact that the server is in a data center.”

Not a fan of the idea but I guess there's plenty of online only games now.

How are people finding this?

Fortunately the massive input lag I mentioned in the Stadia thread was down to the Pro Controller, however it's been a mixed bag. Once I connected the Xbox controller everything seemed great, Halo 5 and Forza were laggy but we very playable over a 4G connection. For whatever reason things stopped being ok and the connection went to gooseberry fool when I tried to start Ace Combat and Tomb Raider, I tried again a bit later and had probably an hour or so of almost flawless gameplay in Crackdown 3, no lag and very much a "this is the future" kind of moment but again I went to play something else and the connection just wasn't having it. Just tried playing over my home WiFi and it's not working, I'm getting upgraded to a faster fibre connection soon so I'll let people know what difference this makes.

I tried it last night. The game kept freezing up, as in the picture would freeze but the game would carry on.

I was really surprised at how well it works for me, tried it on my phone (over 4G and over wifi - I live in the countryside and have fibre to the cabinet). Plan to try it on a tablet next. Could genuinely see myself using this for some games when out of the house (at least on a tablet size screen), having my whole library of Xbox games streamable would be fantastic.

What are your internet and 4G speeds?

My WiFi isn't great but MS you only need a 10Mb connection for this to work so 18Mb at this time of day should be fine.

Oh, I tried it over Wi-fi not 4G.

The speed was over 60Mb and on 5ghz not 2.4, I think ping was about 20 something.

This reminded me that the Sky Q router is disk bandwidth, I just split them up and put my phone on the 5ghz connection, turned the screen resolution down to FHD and it worked perfectly. The speed is a bit quicker now that it was earlier which also might affect things.

Is there anything you can do on your phone to turn off any back ground apps so that over 4G there is nothing in the background which might affect the stream?

I can't think of anything. I have a SKY hub, I don't think it's a Q hub though. I had to separate the channels on the hub, they were combined or something.

Edit: It is a Q hub, only thing I can think of is changing the channel. There's 3 available and I'm using the one that has 80MHz on channel 36.

Around 50Mb for home internet and 40Mb for my 4G. It was thinking latency would be an issue but it's working fine thankfully.

We received word from Microsoft that clarification is in order for the story originally broken by Stevivor. Here's what a spokesperson told us:
"We’re very early in the multi-year journey for Project xCloud, which is currently in public preview. We are investigating a variety of new capabilities made possible by the cloud. However, we remain committed to an approach with game streaming that is complementary to console and have no plans for cloud-exclusive content at this time."

Did you have any luck? Even when my broadband speed has dropped down to 20Mb it's been flawless over 5GHz.

Just tried 4G at home and yeah it was perfect although I'm getting 60Mb which I'm guessing is pretty quick for 4G. Thinking about it I did have a mobile hotspot set up the day (different location), I wonder if that could have caused issues.

It's better than what it was, but it still freezes on occasion and the sound cuts out and stuff. No idea why, my ping is much lower than what they say you need (120 is recommended, mines around 15) and my speeds are around 70Mb.
