Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Phil Spencer has revealed that there are several Halo games in the works. The head of Microsoft Game Studios said that Halo is one of their first party multi-faceted franchises that can span across several games and genres:

Well, there's more than one team building Halo games right now. There are more than two or three teams building Halo things right now. Some of them we will own, some of them we won't. It's never been, for me, about who you own or don't own - it's about working with the best creative talent in the industry.

Have Microsoft™ ever heard of the phrase quality over quantity? Let us look back at Halo™ 3 for a second, rememeber it? I say with great certainty that most of us have forgotten about its existence. The general consensus reflects that Halo™ 3 is an appalling game married by a semi-decent multi player. It's injustice that an appalling game can reach higher scores from the press because it is packaged with a free version of the previous game's multi player mode. Legendary franchises aren't milked and do not have their quality compromised. Look at the Killzone™ franchise for example, there's only 3 games and it's the most popular franchise of the last millenia.

Actually only morons think that.

How exactly is this news? We already knew they had Halo Wars, Chronicles and 4 in development and they'd already hinted there were more coming.

I don't get the milking part, it's a game that's the face of a console. Just like Mario is, that gets milked more than Halo.

As long as the games are good I don't mind.

Spin offs so far: Halo Wars.

Damn.

I know, I don't get why everyone is hating on Microsoft for wanting to make money from a series that has made many people happy.

The Halo universe is so rich and the books have really help flesh out that universe.

I want the spin off games to help the universe not exploit it. It's such a fantastic universe it'd be a shame to see it exploited utterly until it's nothing but a joke.

We have yet to have a bad Halo spin off ( ;) ), so anyone who claims this is a bad thing is a dirty, dirty cynic.

What is Killzone? Is it a PC game?

If we get one Halo game a year from different devs, I'd be very happy.

It doesn't feel like they're overused the franchise yet, I'd go as far as to say it's been under exploited so far.

World of Halo.

I'm not interested in this whoring of the franchise. As far as I'm concerned Halo has ended after 3 and that trilogy is how I will remember it.

Like Planetside, but not as rubbish? That'd be ace, and it'd gooseberry fool all over MAG too, so I'd say it's a possible that MS would want to do something like that.

I wouldn't say Planetside was rubbish, in its day the game was great, but I remember first getting it and finding out what sort of PC you needed to actually make the game half playable, it was sort of like the Crysis of it's day.

Although I think future Halo games would sell well, I don't think the sales would be anywhere near the proportions of Halo 3. Halo is for the hardcore and I think the hardcore have finally had enough of the Halo universe.
