You guys need to fly in South Africa and Kenya, Grand Canyon and then try landing on Tenzing–Hillary Airport in Nepal.

But I also do know I'll never learn how to actually fly these planes with the assists off. So I'm basically using it as a pretty impressive sightseeing thing. I can imagine you'd be gripped if you were a proper flying buff, though.

I suspect what I'll do is fly round a few places I'd like to see, and there are a few exhibition type flights in the opening menu that I'll no doubt do. Then I'll probably move it to storage after that, for the occassional tootle around.

I stayed in the default Cessna for ages, but then I explored the menus and saw that the little rear-prop thing goes much slower, giving you more time to see the sights.

Can’t you just pause and use the drone camera though to really take in the sights?

Probably. I certainly think you should be able to. But I couldn't quickly find the option for it.

The drone camera is also a bit rubbish to control to be fair without messing with the settings.

This is taking ages to download the 'mandatory patch'. :dread:

I’ve got more to download. Flight Sim is probably the worst game I’ve seen for patches and updates. Seems to be doing it all the time, and they are never small.

I hadn't even thought of a slower plane. So I did that, and it was much more enjoyable.

Although, once again the sights I saw were my local park and pub, before flying home, all of which I'd already seen earlier today in real life. But this way is quicker.

Yes, I think I am going to try a bit of this kind of thing.

For some reason. I also like spinning the globe around and seeing all the lights on in those countries where it's night time. It reminds me a bit of being on a plane as a passenger, when you get to track your flight on the little screen, and not in a bad way as I haven't travelled in so long.

In fact, I might try and fly over the bit of India I visited pre pandemic, for the nostalgia.

Does anyone know how to play online and see other players? I've just been going to the world map free flying mode.

I saved Reddit post a few days before this came out, as inspiration for when i managed to get to play it - thought it might come in handy, but seems like it might help you too:

If you are or even if you are not interested in playing Flight Simulator 2020 here is what I suggest people do. Start coming up with a list of cool things you want to see in Flight Simulator.

If you have a list and you don't just fly between two cities it is really cool.
A lot of people fire up the game hop into a 747, fly straight and level for 500 miles, get bored and then quit. If you do that you are missing out on a huge world of really incredible things to see.
You can also use it to better inform yourself on things going on in the world or even use it to learn about history! Instead, get into something like a Beechcraft and go explore scenic places. I have a list of all the places that I have checked and here are some of the top ones I would suggest:
  • Normandy Beach (fly the whole thing from West to East. It helps you understand how massive that operation was on D-Day.)
  • Auschwitz-Berkenau - This was pretty sobring to see actually. The population has grown a ton since WW2, but it is still crazy how dense the population is around that area and how all that took place right there.
  • Chernobyl Disaster Site, Pripyat Ukraine
  • Upottery Airfield. It is not being used today, but this is where many bombing runs into France took off from in WW2. It is also where American airmen took off on D-Day. It was made famous most recently from Band of Brothers in Episode 2. If you think doing this takes hours of flying it doesn't often times airports are within a 10 minute flight from a location you want to see!
  • Grand Canyon
  • Pyramids of Giza, Egypt.
  • Roman Colosseum, Italy
  • Great Wall of China. It is there. It is ungodly long and you really do not understand how long it is until you fly the length of it. And this was built by MAN.
  • Vatican City If you try to land here use the street leading to the square as your runway ;)
  • Alcatraz Island/ Golden Gate Bridge
  • Arlington National Cemetary
  • North Korea / South Korea security complex (the one with the blue buildings)
  • NFL Fans, do a stadium tour! If you get mods (not sure if the console version will have it) I took off in an F22 Rapter Fighter Jet from Minneapolis. Flew over US Bank Stadium, then over to Lambeau field, then Soldier Field, then up to Ford Field, across the lake over Browns stadium, Steelers Stadium.
  • Dubai! Good god is this a beautiful place to see.
  • Kabul, Afghanistan. Most people see it on the news and that is as much as they see. Even if you crash land after you get in the air just take off in a small plane. Truly see how absolutely massive that city is. It seems to sprawl forever and then after that...nothing. Just miles and miles of mountains.
  • Alaska, literally anywhere, but along the coasts are incredible!
  • Mount Everest! Lukla Airport, Nepal

Some good ideas in there and I'm going to try them all, because I know I'll just fly from London to Glasgow and get bored and start crashing into buildings for fun.

Have you downloaded the UK data pack? After I downloaded it, there was definitely a marker for the Angel of the North, but I haven’t been there yet.

Hope this sorts out a few other places. I flew over Oxford and it was most definitely not the city of dreaming spires. More like the city of semi-detached suburbia. Really weird.

Ah, not yet. Didn't think of that. Hopefully it sorts out the issue where it thinks the main road through Team Valley is a river, too.

I flew over the Eden Project last night at 11pm with real time weather on (occasional heavy showers). It was amazing.

Thanks LewisD, those do look like some great ideas. Among others, that Normandy beach idea grabs me

Obvs my first flight was past the gloriousness of Trent Bridge cricket ground and the world famous City Ground. Both looked gooseberry fool so I need to investigate whether there is a pack that will restore them to their rightful status.

Tried flying over north east China with live weather on to see what the game does for a typhoon. The skies were pretty impressive.

As soon as I started manually tweaking the weather settings, my PC crashed.

That's a lot of crashes since the latest patch, anyone else on PC seeing this? Improved fps is nice, but I preferred being able to play for more than 20 minutes.

Think i will do those beach landing sites this afternoon. Will probably start from the channel islands as i have fond memories of visiting Guernsey and Jersey.
