There is no way my PC can handle this in VR, but I really want this in VR.

I suspect that will be finished after DX12 due to the poor multithread performance of DX11. I still don't know why they did this in DX11 and not DX12 to start with.

I struggle to think of any PC that can handle this in VR. Unless they greatly decrease the visuals or find a way to improve performance.

Microsoft Flight Simulator has a rich history on PC that spans nearly four decades, all the way back to 1982. For the first time, we wanted to give more aspiring pilots a chance to take flight by bringing this robust simulation to consoles. Today, we’re excited to share that Microsoft Flight Simulator will come to life on the Xbox Series X|S this summer. Simmers on Xbox Series X|S can expect the same level of depth as the PC version, allowing you to experience the most authentic and realistic flight simulator we have ever created.

From light planes to wide-body jets, you’ll test your piloting skills against the challenges of real-time weather including accurate wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rain, and lighting – all in a dynamic and living world. With the power of satellite data and cloud-based AI, you’ll travel the entire planet in amazing detail with over 37 thousand airports, 2 million cities, 1.5 billion buildings, real mountains, roads, trees, rivers, animals, traffic, and more.

When launching Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC earlier this year, we said that this was only the beginning of our journey to make the best simulation possible. As we continue adding to the sim with free World Updates, themed DLC bundles, and other improvements, Xbox Series X|S simmers can expect these updates to arrive on console as well. We’re also working with several third-party partners to bring additional peripherals to Xbox Series X|S that will make your console simming experience even more immersive.

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be opening the skies to millions of new pilots on Xbox Series X|S in Summer 2021, and will be available via Xbox Game Pass on launch day. For the latest information on Microsoft Flight Simulator, stay tuned to @MSFSOfficial on Twitter.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how close the Series X version can get to the maxed-out PC experience with quite a bit of time to get to grips with the hardware and optimise the game.

If it anywhere near this then I think this would be the first Series based killer app, and would probably be the most prominent one over the consoles life cycle. It would be a huge selling point for the console, not least because it is “free” with Game Pass.

Flight sims always are. There is a lot of work that needs to be done on flight models as well as system integration which is time intensive development. One of the competitors P3D version 5 is $200 for the licence, you can get an academic version for less but it has an annoying watermark on it.

What's in store for Microsoft Flight Simulator in 2021?

Jorg Neumann on console, VR - and why an Xbox One version hasn't been ruled out.

He all but rules it out though so that tagline from eurogamer is bait.

If MS announce streaming on Xbox One consoles, then technically it will be on Xbox One and he alludes to that.

The first firm news of console versions came last December, though only Xbox Series S and X were confirmed to be coming this year. That doesn't rule out an Xbox One version, though. "I guess it's a timing thing," Neumann says when asked about Microsoft's older console. "Obviously memory matters. Certainly on Ultra settings, you need a big PC - well, that's a lot, lot more memory than what you had on an Xbox One. So it's a journey, like most things, you know - let's get the Xbox Series X and S versions done, and then we'll look ahead after that. We never close doors, and there are other options, though it's a little bit too early to talk about it."

I’m intrigued by this. Although I am slightly nervous about how easy or accessible it is. I’ve been tempted to download to PC for a little while but it’s massive and I’m just not convinced if it’s a 30 min try, and something much bigger.

How is the tutorial? Is ok to be a complete novice and newcomer and can I jump in and go flying?

World Update 3: United Kingdom & Ireland

We are hard at work hard on World Update 3 and it is looking great! This massive update contains new aerials, new DEM, over 70 POIs, 5 airports, two landing challenges, and will also introduce 5 brand-new photogrammetry cities for your enjoyment. Unfortunately, these new cities are causing a slight delay… it’s a new process and data source for us and the tools have to be updated for these cities to integrate seamlessly into the sim. The Bing Maps team is working hard to make this happen and the data provider, Bluesky, is helping as well. We believe that the remaining issues will be resolved within a few days so we are targeting the release one week later than originally planned. We apologize about the delay, but are convinced that it will be worth the wait … and that a full 3D London is a critical element of this release. Thank you for your patience. Here are a few images of what’s to come:
