Doesn't matter if CoD remains multi-platform forever, it's $10 with Gamepass and $70 on Playstation - and Sony can't really afford to Gamepassify all of its first/second party releases, they need to be full retail to make money. That calculus, for consumers, is easy.

Investors aren't concerned because they know Microsoft is building a monopoly, and is going to be able to completely undercut the rest of the videogame industry by taking huge losses forever until it starves the competition out.

When it has its monopoly, it can then jack prices back up, lay off however many people it wants (there'll be a lot) and turn down the quality of its output, and there'll be nothing anyone can do about it.

What exactly about Alvin's post was worth belittling him for, Photek?

No one know what’s going to happen going forward but to doom post to such an apocalyptic degree is absurd, and my response was appropriate imo.

It's not even a doom post, it's literally the business model; going for it Uber style. I don't understand why you back up MS on every post as though they're your pal. I own their stock and don't think this is a great move long term for the average consumer.

Yeah, I don't think it's particularly absurd prediction, Alvin is just stating what happens in capitalism when a business achieves a monopoly.

You can say we don't know what's going to happen, well we kinda do, because it's what always happens under monopolies.

Just to add to the above, we've already seen PS Plus go from amazing value during the PS3 era to being required for online play on the PS4 to the current iteration where you still need it for online play but, in my opinion at least, the monthly games that you can add to your library don't have the same appeal as the early days.

To be fair it is hard for them to keep the appeal of the free games high in this new generation because the PS5 has no games!

Nintendo and Sony RIP in Peace I guess.

It's literally not NEAR a monopoly, Xbox will still be behind Sony PS in gaming share after the acquisition...

I think it's a brilliant strategic move by Microsoft, particularly in terms of timing. Right now they're possibly the third biggest player in the console industry but, by nature of the company being a financial behemoth, they can buy up almost anyone in the gaming market and fall back on that "we're not the leader" line.

They're not, right now, but they have the backing to become so pretty much whenever they feel like it.
