Cloud save storage announced after conference.

Microsoft's confirmed cloud storage for Xbox Live, via a statement released after its E3 press conference.

"Here at Xbox Live we listen to your feedback," said service VP Marc Whitten in a statement. "We are making it easier for you to sign into your Xbox Live account from any console at any time to access your game saves and full profile, including items such as Microsoft Points to make purchases, Achievements and friends.

"Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox Live gaming experience even when you're not in your own living room by giving you the option to store your game saves securely in the Xbox Live cloud instead of on a portable memory unit or your console's hard drive.

"Gone are the days of gamertag recovery. Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are," he said.

Also slyly announced for the Xbox online service are 'Beacons'. "We want to make it easy for you to connect with friends over your favorite games on Xbox Live, so we are introducing Beacons to the service," explains Whitten.

"Beacons are a way to tell your Xbox Live and Facebook friends that you want to play a game on Xbox Live. By setting a Beacon, you tell Xbox Live what you want to play. Then, Xbox Live lets you know when friends are playing or want to play the same game.

"With Beacons, no matter what you're currently doing on Xbox Live your friends know that it's ok to ask you to play your Beaconed games."

But he said another trilogy didn't he? Halo 1-3 weren't none of the above. Why would they change it to an RTS and risk sales? Plus the 5th one will most likely be on the next console. Would people really want it to be an RTS rather than a shooter? I don't think so.

I don't mind Halo. But what I mind is MS just feeding us Kinect rubbish throughout the conference. They do know that even though 10 million people bought Kinect, they have another 40m people to cater for. MS wasted money on Rare. They could have got talented developers like Bizarre or Bioware.

Rare have just had a multi million selling game

On average, about 1 per console.

Funny, I have Galaxy, Galaxy 2 and NSMBWii.

Yet you only had Super Mario 64 on N64, or Super Mario Sunshine on Gamecube. And hey, 3 games still isn't as bad on one console as strawberry floating seven, you sad, desperate man.

Seven? Not today you haven't.

Stop talking such utter bollocks for once.

Halo CE
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Halo ODST
Halo Reach
Halo 4

And, going by the wording of what was said during the conference, Halo 5 and 6 as well. All on 360.

Seems I was wrong when I said 7. I should have said 8.

How many games featuring Mario on Wii again?

Wait, we've now gone from the main series to games that simply have the character in? STOP MOVING THE GOALPOSTS.

Well you did that when you included Halo Wars in your post.

OK, that takes us back to 7.

I don't know what the problem is.

Halo 3 was from 2007. The next main game was Reach from 2010. With ODST as a sort of spin-off/expansion/map pack in between. Remake of the first game coming out this year.

Mario Galaxy was from 2007. Galaxy 2 from 2010. With NSMBWii inbetween as a spin-off. "Remake" of Mario Allstars came out last year.

So far the same amount then. But the 360 will (apparently) be getting 3 new Halo games. But then again the 360 is Microsoft's only console. Whereas in the same time Nintendo have had the DS and 3DS. With Super Mario 64 DS, NSMB and another Mario platformer coming out for the 3DS.

But does it really matter how many games in a series are on each console?

So, the only announcement of interest that conference produced was Minecraft 360. Everything else was known, leaked or dross.

Only if you want to troll Halo.

For some reason, the old "I'll defend one fort, you can take the other" approach seems to be some people's only mode of debate.

This isn't about matching some acceptable tally for games - if they were always boundary breaking, unmissable experiences it'd be great news - but rather just the irritating concept that MS have so little invested in future titles or franchises that the best they could dig out for e3 was another strawberry floatin' Halo trilogy.

Or Call of Duty.

But seriously, Microsoft (and Sony and Nintendo) really needs new IPs. Gears, Fable, Fonza and Halo is getting boring.

Viva la PC gaming, then.

I would be hugely surprised if a new Halo trilogy encompassed a different gameplay style in its second and third parts. Saying that, I'd like to see some sidesteps in the series like Halo Wars (which I didn't think was fair to count as one of the seven Halo games on 360, just like how you can't count Mario Sports Mix alongside Galaxy).

I hope we get a different enemy this time around, though I have a feeling we'll still see the Covenant. Full of character and iconic as they are, a new enemy would help put 343's stamp on the new games.

And this whole argument stemmed from Rik using Mario and Zelda as a defense against people's claims that there were at claims of "yet another" Halo game. As I've said, it's a bit of an odd way to go about criticising or defending a franchise to bring in another company's games on another machine. People weren't really trolling Halo until Rik started going on about Mario and Zelda being milked, and there only being 2 Halo games on the 360, or that SMG 2 was a cut-and-paste sequel.

I'm not actually bemoaning Halo 4 at all, to be honest. I knew it was coming and I'm glad I saw something of it (albeit a CGI trailer). I'm not particularly bothered about Halo CE - I played it recently and the campaign was as good as it ever was, and I didn't notice the graphics, really - but I'll no doubt get Halo 4 on launch.

I'd like to see what 343 have planned for Halo 4, though.

Oh yes, Kinect Sports. Banjo and Perfect Dark were hardly great this gen.

That wasn't your argument though, you said "waste of money", they have just had a multi million selling game, they are the driving force behind Kinect and the Avatar dash which has just provoked the biggest year in Xbox history sales wise.

I'm sure if you told most developers to make a game like Kinect Sports, they would be able to do it right. And what about the other games they developed? Like Banjo and Perfect Dark this gen. Were they not wasted money?

The xbox exclusive list is weak. And once Gears exclusive contract finishes, then it is going to be even more weaker. So you agree that the xbox exclusive list is short?

Perfect Dark Zero was a launch game ported from Xbox, online it was pretty good. Banjo will be known as one of the most underrated games this gen when all is said and done, however like I said Rare have been one of the main reasons for the 360 massive sales bounce.

To say anyone else could have done it is almost as stupid as the Nintendo claim that they could have made Halo but chose not to, pretty strawberry floating stupid.

I would have personally liked Rare to have announced a "hardcore" game, as I don't think their 360 output has been that bad - PDZ and Kameo were alright at launch, and I thought Banjo and the two VP games were really good (and totally different to what was on the 360 at the time).

Heck, it would have been nice to have had an old IP rejigged as a Kinect game and, to be honest, I would look at Kinect Sports much more closely had it been called something like "Diddy Kong Sports" or something. I have to admit, I look at the Avatars in games and just think "meh".

And Microsoft were so grateful for Rare's hard work that they fired the entire art staff. Truly a prosperous and mutually beneficial relationship.

What aspect of a first person shooter couldn't Nintendo do?

Hardly, the same is it now? You comparing developing Halo to Kinect Sports now? Next you'd be comparing developing Mario to wii sports.

Once again you fail to answer my question. Do you agree that MS are short on the exclusive side? Once the Gears exclusivity goes away. They left with Halo and Forza.

Where was Alan Wake? Isn't that Microsoft's newest (well...) exclusive franchise? They should've at least had some kind of teaser for this Night Springs things...
