I thought it was good, but not great on first watch? Few really good moments though and yeah, Sidekick Simon is great, as he was on the first series of this and Mid Morning Matters.

The sheer look of disappointment on sidekick Simon's face as he strawberry floats up yet again is priceless. Then the insane glee when he remembers what phone line to use is gold.

I could be wrong about the line, but Simon said unchartered obesity in response to his question and his facial expression after it had me in stitches.

That guy is a good comedy actor.

Only just got round to it. Such brilliant attention to tiny details. The photo of Ellen MacArthur in his dressing room; the split-second view of the audience after he threw the mug, showing the guy holding his head; “Right, Burger King” - It’s my life.

And was the second brother played by Russ Abbot?

Funny either way!

Thought it was great by the way. So many subtle little moments that when you catch are brilliant.

As an aside, Coogan debuted Partridge in 1991. 30 years to keep a character going and still be hilarious is hell of an achievement.

I’m as old as Alan was when he pierced his foot on a spike.

He probably did. That makes a lot more sense. I'm guessing I didn't hear it properly.

He did say childhood obesity.

Another one I remembered earlier that made me laugh - when Alan said something like "when you're on holiday and you think about the better holiday you would be having if you didn't have children"

I thought it was a much stronger first episode than in the first series which was still finding its feet.

I wonder if Alan is going to try to break up their engagement somehow.
