Nice

I also liked the press invite that Alan sent out to select people for a screening a week or two back:

I'm Alan Partridge and I am delighted, or at least content, to invite you to a special preview screening of my (and BBC One's) upcoming magazine show 'This Time with Alan Partridge' (my emphasis).

The show marks my return to BBC Television after two decades in various doldrums (depression, radio, Sky Atlantic) and you've been carefully selected because you're either a journalist with a pleasant disposition or a friend or representative of an institution with whom I currently hold no specific grudge.

Limited refreshments will be provided. I think it works out at about two drinks a head, although around a third of you won't drink so some of you can have four. Food-wise, expect light snacks; those of you with a large appetite or poor impulse control should probably eat before you get there.

Toilet facilities are also on hand, catering for the full spectrum of gender and disability - but again, if you have more bespoke needs, try to go before you arrive.

Dress code: Just show a bit of respect really.

Have some manners and RSVP.

I thought that was fairly weak tbh. Not peak partridge at all. Felt like it was about 10 years out of date with its pastiche of the One show.

Some background to that:

Diana [Dors] was Britain’s answer in her 1950s heyday to Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. And like the former Norma Jeane Baker and Vera Jayne Palmer, she had changed her name before making her bid for stardom. It is easy to see why she decided to do this, because she was born and brought up as Diana Fluck.

The vicar at the church fete was reminded of this before he mounted the podium to welcome the celebrity.

Thus it was that he was able to tell his audience: “Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you our star guest. We all love her, especially as she is our local girl. I therefore feel it right to introduce her by her real name.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the very lovely Miss Diana Clunt.”

It’s not quite the same without Iannucci's involvement but it still had it’s moments.

Only thing I would have changed is to film it as if it was a Live show like Knowing Me, especially with the way it’s being promoted. The off air bits felt a bit jarring.

Watching Cunk on Britain and she's a better Alan Partridge than Steve Coogan's latest effort.

Decent start, hope it gets better. Couple of moments were good though, Clunt/Fluck, touch screen with Sidekick Simon, hacking interview was good when the beans were being split on Alan.

I thought Cunk on Britain was either brilliant or not really that funny. The Cunk on Christmas episode was top all the way through though.

A couple of good moments but overall I was quite disappointed with that. It just all felt a bit.....off?

Maybe Alan is better when he's on the ropes rather than on the up. Still, I'll be watching again next week.

Hmm. Tough one as it had some moments that really got a laugh out of me but I have to say for the most part I was a bit disappointed.

People bringing up Philomena Chunk though. :fp: She's not fit to hold Alan's 12" plate.

Yeah I wasn't massively impressed, the "live" format doesn't seem to work, it felt very disjointed. I can see what he is trying to do, kind of a TV version of MMM, if that makes sense!

It feels like another quick way to bring Partridge back as they probably filmed this quickly given Coogan's schedule, but I'd have preferred another series of MMM.

The best bits for me were the Sidekick Simon bit, and the stuff that happened when they weren't "live". Oh and the interview with the Hacktivist was pretty good with the chase down at the end!

3.3m for Partridge. Warren (Martin Clunes suburban sitcom) prior had 3.8m.
