So I’m definitely hooked now. The core combat gsmeplsy is superb. The card mechanics and Deck building work surprisingly well and makes me want to experiment with party composition.

I’m finding blade is awesome for his bleed. Spider-Man is great at multi enemy and mob clean up and captain. Marvel is a powerhouse. Deadpool can be fun, I can see support potential for Ironman but haven’t really built out his deck. I think ghost rider has potential too, creating pits to shove people in is always fun and the “heroic” move when he runs them down in his car is great as it deals massive damage and can wipe out a row of enemies.

I still find all the stuff at the abbey to be a pain. While it’s growing on me a bit I still find it takes me away from what I want to be doing (tactical combat).

The Abbey is what puts me off a second playthrough, so much fluff and uninteresting exploration but it's something that will irritate me if I skip it all and miss out on good upgrades. I think all of the characters in this have the potential to be absolute powerhouses, which is something I love. By the end of the game I was able to fill my hand with Ironman cards, boost his damage and then just rain down fiery hell with his airstrike attack. The combat and deck building in this game is absolutely brilliant and so satisfying. I just wish you could skip the Abbey completely and go from one battle to another, with just the deck building in between.

I am very tempted by the season pass right now though as I have an itch to go back and that would give me some incentive.

I bought the edition with all DLC. Deadpool, Morbius, storm and Venom. They all have unique play style quirks and while they are fun in their story missions none have persuaded me to swap them into my main team.

I haven’t even explored the abbey grounds beyond the forced tutorial at the start, I’m aware I could be getting loads of cool upgrades and cards if I did, but I’m always itching to get back into battle. The “persona” style character interactions and day/evening activity is just less interesting to me. I mean listening to Blade waffle on about a book is just a bit weird!

Got £20 Xmas present last night so bought the season pass on offer as I'm really itching to play this again.

The battle animations are sublime and so satisfying :datass:

I do feel I’m neglecting the midnight suns. Never use magik, nico or Robbie. Blade, captain marvel, Spider-Man and now wolverine are my go to!

I feel like the ghost rider hole mechanic could be good in a kickback build but I prefer the more well known characters it seems.

Magik is one of the best characters in the game.

Going to pick this up on Steam Deck to play over Xmas, seems you can get the Legendary Edition for £23.49 which includes the Season Pass.

I’ve never really used her. I found the portal mechanic a bit confusing and never really experimented. What makes her so good?

The portals let you move enemies wherever you want, setting up knockbacks into other enemies or environment hazards. I use her in nearly every single mission.

Just finished this with season pass in about 60hrs having rushed or ignored a lot of the abbey stuff. I did get into it a bit more as it went on but I was ready for it to finish when it did. I maintain that there is a lot of additional crap chucked into this but the core deck building and tactical combat is superb. I wouldn’t be opposed to a sequel though given the poor sales I doubt that will happen. Maybe Firaxis will get to work on xcom 3!

Just started playing this tonight, did the Tutorial and first main mission. Love the gameplay so far, the card based battle system seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun working out best combinations of cards and positioning.

A couple of bits I’m still not sure about, for instance in the fight with Fallen Venom at the start I was trying to get doctor strange to hit him with an item but it wouldn’t allow him to so? Not quite sure why.

Environmental attacks require energy (I can’t recall what it’s called, heroism?) or maybe you didn’t have a move action to get to the item?

Ahh I didn’t realise they used Heroism, that’s likely why, I thought they were basically free moves.

I think exploding barrels are free but vaulting or leaping or kicking big objects takes heroism.

Yeah, I did a mission last night and did an environmental move and noticed my Heroism dropped by 1.

Still early days but I quite like the social stuff, just breaks up the gameplay so it’s not constant battles.

The social stuff grew on me by the end but early on I felt it took me away from what I enjoyed - the excellent combat. I never did explore the abbey grounds beyond the forced tutorial at the start. I was just too eager to get back into the combat.

I never did settle on a favourite team but Blade was definitely one of them. Only ones didn’t like at all were Nico and Dr Strange (and Morbius to a lesser extent)

Captain Marvel seems like she could be quite a good character once powered up. Like the proton blast move which takes out enemies that are lined up.

Are the Tarot cards worth anything or are they purely collectible?

No idea I ignored so much of the periphery stuff. Upgrading cards and abilities is what I focused on. Yes captain marvel was my fav early on. Ironman when upgraded is a beast and I loved Spider-Man too.

Seems the Tarot Cards just give you a new costume once you find all 22, not fussed about going out of my way to find them in that case

This is the perfect Steam Deck game though, easier to get into a game like this on a portable rather than the TV I find
