Tbh, I get the creative side with people who are creative, without the mining and gooseberry fool I'd be there making stone dicks or something.

Haha yeah but you could make them massive and out of diamond.

It’s the red stone stuff I like with creative making big build stuff that uses red stone.

It’s was a plus to the old java servers that you could hybrid it and have some people in creative and some people in survival on the same server at the same time.

Today we’re announcing two new ways we’re taking advantage of existing and updating hardware. One, we’re expanding the scope of Minecraft on bedrock platforms with our new engine, Render Dragon. Second, we’re pushing the graphical possibilities of the game by partnering with NVIDIA to bring real-time ray tracing to Minecraft. Prepare your eyes!

We couldn’t be more excited to take advantage of the new ray tracing technology from NVIDIA. It’ll be playable on Windows 10 with devices that are capable of DirectX R, such as with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU (and we plan to expand it to future platforms that support DirectX R raytracing).

With the capabilities of this tech, you’ll be able to experience your Minecraft worlds with realistic lighting, vibrant colors, , realistic water that reflects and refracts naturally, and emissive textures that light up. What does ‘emissive’ mean? It means you’re about to see Minecraft like you’ve never seen it before!

You’ll see individual Minecraft Bedrock platforms update in the months ahead as we learn the capabilities of our lovely new game engine, Render Dragon. You may have already seen a preview of Render Dragon in action if you watched Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference on-stage when we demoed Minecraft Earth.

It featured edge highlighting and new lighting techniques, which is just the start of the visual and performance upgrades we’re planning to make with Render Dragon. Render Dragon supports a range of graphics features, depending on what your device is capable of. Not all devices will support ray tracing, but we will have some graphics enhancements on most devices. Again, it’s all about taking advantage of different hardware to offer the smoothest Minecraft experience possible, no matter what device you’re playing on!

We’ll have more news to share soon, so you can start trying out new ways to play!

I honestly liked minecraft lighting the most when it was a set value per block. It made figuring out light levels for enemy spawns way easier

I've watched a lot of Minecraft videos with raytracing and they look beautiful, although I find the water in third-party videos shown as ultra realistic and wavey not blocky isn't the right fit. This confirms that RTX is part of Microsoft's vision for next-gen and of course the next-Xbox. It's interesting that this update is being done in an official capacity between Mojang and Nvidia. Nvidia of course is the bigger PC Card manufacturer but I wonder why MS didn't partner with AMD who are powering their consoles, and could this mean the new Xbox gets its own Minecraft?

EDIT:
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Polygon that ray tracing in Minecraft will not be exclusive to Nvidia graphics cards, but those are the only consumer-level GPUs currently available that support the technology.

It seems Sonic Ether did a good job with his SEUS shaders that MS took notice.

Existing Minecraft: Xbox One Edition players now have until November 30, 2019 to redeem their free update to the Bedrock version.

Luckily, updating couldn’t be easier! You’ll need to login to your Xbox profile on your console. If you own a physical copy of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, and you’ve played five hours in the last twelve months, or bought DLC at any time, then you're entitled to a free update to the Bedrock version. If you haven't played for five hours in the last 12 months/bought any DLC, you can fulfill either of the conditions (it’s a pretty good excuse to play Minecraft for five hours) before November 30 2019. You will receive a 5x5 code via Xbox messaging that lets you redeem the Bedrock version of Minecraft. Please be prepared for a short wait to receive your code, as it could take a few weeks while our team processes redemption requests.

Very happy to see cross-play getting to PlayStation, it's the better future for players and hopefully PS will accept that

BEDROCK IS COMING TO PS4

A whole new version of Minecraft is coming to PS4!

Bedrock is coming to PlayStation 4! “Kelsey”, you gasp in horror, “you’ve given away the whole article in the first sentence”. Don’t worry, beloved reader of Minecraft.net, there is always more – and I get paid by the word! Wait, I don’t?

“So how is this different from the version of Minecraft I can already play on my PS4?” The difference is that the Bedrock version of Minecraft is the unified version of the game that offers the same experience across all consoles. All that glorious, unified code means that you’ll be playing the same game as your pals on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows 10, and mobile! So, yes – that means you get cross-play between those different consoles (once you’re running the most recent update). Not just that, PS4 players now also have access to the Minecraft Marketplace – a source for worlds, skins, mini-games, and mash up packs! So you’re going to have not just a better Minecraft experience than ever before, but more Minecraft than ever.

“What if I already own Minecraft on PS4, do I need to buy the game again to get the Bedrock version?” – to which I say, you have a lot of questions and this is an article, not a FAQ! But, more to the point, you can get the new version of the game free of charge. The next time you start Minecraft, the new update will install automatically.

So with that, we welcome the newest addition to the Bedrock family with a hurrah! Just look out for a certain update that we can’t stop buzzing about that will roll out this week. Welcome to the Overworld, PS4 players!

Just a reminder that we do have a Realm that I'm currently paying for, so anyone wanting some crossplay shenanigans can use that. Link is in my sig and (I think) is just a case of popping on to it. If it needs me to approve anyone just give me a shout (But I don't think it does).

Thought it might be getting delayed before the CV outbreak with no firm release date announced but even more likely now.

If I wanted to start giving Mincraft a good go on PC, which version should I be getting? The Java version from the official website? Or the Windows 10 version from the MS Store?
