Microsoft announced that it has sold 176 million copies of Minecraft, quite a big hop over the 156 million figure they revealed just seven months ago. Despite more buzz around games like Fortnite, Microsoft has kept the game fresh with things like the Dungeons online co-op, a free browser version, a forthcoming movie and now, an augmented reality version called Minecraft Earth. Microsoft added that it has passed 200 million registered users of the Microsoft China edition and completed 130 million Minecraft "Hour of Code" sessions.

Just wondering does anyone still play minecraft or wish to? a bit confused as to which version is the more common one players are on. Windows 10 edition or Java Edition? I miss the old minecraft adventures.

Checked it last night and yeah it's expired. I've renewed it just now, so you should be able to play on it. Been a while since it was used though so I can't guarantee other people will be on it.

The Super Duper Graphics Pack which added smooth textures and great lighting to the XBO and PC editions has been cancelled. I was looking forward to this, as Minecraft can be quite beautiful especially with some of the smooth graphics mods and this would have been an easy way to have something similar.

A final update on the Super Duper pack. Some of you might remember us announcing the Super Duper Graphics Pack during E3 2017. Super Duper was an ambitious initiative that brought a new look to Minecraft but, unfortunately, the pack proved too technically demanding to implement as planned.

We realise this is disappointing to some of you – there was a lot of enthusiasm for Super Duper from inside and outside the studio – but unfortunately, we aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices. For this reason, we're stopping development on the pack, and looking into other ways for you to experience Minecraft with a new look.

Minecraft is available on a wide range of platforms, and we’re constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture of each one. We’ll be able to share more on that subject very soon. Thanks for your patience, and sorry for not following through on our plans!
