More a question than anything.

Moving in with my GF over the weekend and I'm looking to get some games we can play together. Specifically I think it would be good to get an MMO that we can play together.

I'm just wondering what MMO's are out there that are friendly to newcomers to the genre?

She was a big fan of Skyrim so I'm certainly interested in looking at ESO as a way in.
At the same time I've already got Guild Wars which wasn't too hard to get into and isn't as much of a grind fest as some other MMOs I've played.
Finally there's The Old Republic, which might also appeal as she's a big Star Wars fan.

Any suggestions? Something that is simple to get into, but that has plenty of depth if we want it.

I'm pretty new to MMOs, having only started playing them in the past two years and, even then, only a little. I've played two games, both on PS4.

I started with Final Fantasy XIV Online. Perhaps unusually, I hadn't played a Final Fantasy game before this one. Even so, I found the gameworld and characters to be quite charming. Technically the game is very good, allowing touch pad and keyboard use on the PS4. The game works is expansive, with the original A Realm Reborn world since supplemented by Heavensward and Stormblood. The game is subscription only but the accounting is setup outside of the PlayStation network and so you can access the PC-style pricing. I pay around £24 every three months. I'm quite happy with this as the game is well-maintained and regularly updated. It is extremely popular at the moment as Stormblood has only just launched! You can try out the game for free; up to character level 35, I believe. The game allows for cross-platform play (PS4 and PC, too).

My second game is The Elder Scrolls Online. This game has changed a lot since launch, with new DLC areas added, keyboard chat supported, and the entire game world opened up so that's you can travel almost anywhere without having to rank up through the levels. Presentation is great and the tone is a little more serious than FF XIV. You can play without a subscription - and it's worth doing that to try out - but paying the monthly sub (£9.99 on PS4 through the Store) enables you to have access to all of the DLC areas (albeit not Morrowind, which is a separate expansion) and to have a craft bag (which is great as it's a limitless store for all of your crafting gear).

Being new to MMOs and unsure about... well, what to do, really... I found that there is a pretty steep learning curve in both games; there is so much to take in! I've really enjoyed both, though, and I plan to put more time into them rather than buying other games.

I'd considered FFXIV, but I heard it was pretty grindy in places. I did enjoy what little I played of it myself though.

WoW was naturally one of my initial thoughts and I do have my own account on it already, I'd just need to resubscribe and set her up with one as well. I just fancied something a bit different.

I couldn't get on with GW2, certainly compared to the first.

I'd go with ESO or Star Wars as they're IPs she's familiar with as a start.

GW is basically a poor mans WoW.

I fundamentally disagree, but this is not the place.

I'd recommend some f2p mmos so that if you don't like them you can move on without any financial investment.

Anyone here played Black Desert Online and know if it's good? It's around a fiver on Steam right now.

Pretty much you might be able to find a key online pretty cheaply but I love that it's very casual and to an extent caters to the hardcore with grinding that's optional like fractal dungeons and legandary weapons

I have absolutely zero desire to play any MMO at all, I don't like playing online at the best of times let alone games which actively require talking to other players on a regular basis. and as far paying a monthly subscription to play - bollocks to that.

That's why GW2 is good as you buy the game and no monthly subscription is needed.

You can buy in game stuff but it's conmetics items like dyes and cute animals.

It looks pretty but is a korean grind/payfest through and through.

How much of a learning cliff are you looking for?

That's fair enough. I've only really played that one, bar the once of Elder Scrolls Online and Twice on FFXIV.
