Depending on how the expansion is handled, Rise could easily become my fav MH.

Currently 1 Magnamalo plate away from having every available SnS before going into high rank ">,> Farmed a few last night to no avail. A friend I was hunting with casually carved one which is 1% according to the notes.

Unlocked 7 Star hunts this evening. Starting to get better with the gunlance which is a very satisfying weapon to use. I like the ability to block and the combination of close range combat with explosive damage.

Still got maybe 2 or 3 new monsters to fight before the end.

Wish my image sig would work

I just spent a few hours making this set (Well as close as I can):

It feels a little OP :slol: 90 seconds of white sharpness and every hit being critical, and a sharpen is all you need to reset the timer.

I think it already is mine - it just feels so good to play man. From the games I've played I think I'd go with:

Rise > Generations Ultimate > 4U > Freedom Unite > World > Freedom > Tri

It's huge to me how much better Rise modernises the series than World did even though it obviously builds on it.

Only reason its not taken the spot already is because it's still base game. So it's hard to compare with to other complete experiences. But if we're talking solely base game MH, then Rise takes it no question lol. I just hit 70 hours and I'm still in low rank. Haven't felt this engrossed with MH since Tri. Makes me so damn excited to see where the roadmap of this is headed.

Is 4U still worth playing even now? I bought it with my New 3DS and barely put any time in, not getting into the series until World.

For me, playing on the big screen just felt more comfortable - especially with the controls. I felt like I was fighting the controls, the camera and my limited view of the action on the smaller handheld.

I actually bought 3 on the Wii U, but left it behind in the UK not long after. Again, I didn't get in to it, barely getting past the Great Jaggi I'd imagine.

I've been tempted by Generations Ultimate on the Switch, but I don't know if that MH pre-World is just going to feel awkward and archaic seeing as that was the game that finally got me over some of those obstacles.

Rise "feels" good, like OR said. It feels modern and accessible, but still retain series quirks.

Dual blades are the weapons you pick if you want an easy to use weapon anyway

They're a little more interesting with sillk bind attacks but I don't understand how people used them before. All the attacks just blend together.

Anyone got any tips for the charge blade? Trying to learn it but I swear the game doesn't actut tell you how to charge your sword and shield and I can't figure it out for the life of me.

I still think it's a brilliant game and the most accessible of the classic style, but honestly if you couldn't get into the series until World then probably not.

It definitely hits that sweet spot. I'm really impressed by the map design, if you took away the wirebug and even broke the maps apart into areas with loading screens connecting them they'd still work, yet the wirebug gives this whole extra layer of freedom. It feels so liberating but the maps still have focus, and the density of design with secrets and hidden gathering points that don't really ever break the enemy AI or balance is impressive.

I'd second this - 4U is hands down my favourite MH game (although Rise is a definite contender now) and imo has the best story and characters, a load of the best monsters and some really cool mechanics as well with Frenzy/Apex statuses (I also think the way they worked Apex in is a really cool example of using gameplay mechanics to inform narrative twists).
However, it will probably be harder to get into than World or Rise - aside from the systems not being quite as transparent, one of the biggest issues is that despite the extra analog nub on New 3DS it's not as comfortable to play unless you're used to playing 3DS regularly. I put hundreds of hours in no problem when it first came out but when I tried to go back to it a year ago I just couldn't get to grips with it anymore because I'd gotten too used to an actual controller for World.

Unrelated but thinking about 4U made me think of the brilliant opening cinematics with Gore Magala/Seregios and now I'm sad that they don't seem to be doing opening cinematics anymore :(

I've been thinking about going back to 4U or Generations U as I want more Monster Hunter, but after all the new inclusions Rise has brought to the table I honestly think it'll be a bit hard to go back to those games.

Whoever designed the Ratholos fight can actually strawberry float off.

The FOV in this game makes it a nightmare.

It flies above or behind and and before you can turn the camera to see it you get hit with a fireball.

Or it'll slam into you and cover up the entire screen. It's the only fight so far that's made me notice the limitations compared to world. Never had any problems with it beforehand.

Maybe try the tracking camera or just using lock on more? Although I don't use either myself so this is untested advice

I've never used that camera before, but I couldn't even if I wanted to as my right stick doesn't click in on my lite.

It's just an annoying fight, never used to swoop over your head so many times in world. Plus flash bombs were way more effective which helped give you more control over the fight (even after the nerf)

In this you knock it out of the sky and it's back there in like 3 seconds

Might be wrong but i think there's a setting to switch which stick toggles between monsters? Controls options seem pretty extensive so would be a weird oversight if it doesn't let you change it.

Anyone here messed around with the Hunter Connect stuff yet? Seems a little unclear with how it's supposed to work but I think it's just an easy way to keep tabs on groups of players and their online lobbies. Figured it might be worth making one for Grcade but dunno how useful it would be lol.

Set the target camera to focus on the monster when you tap L

Showed that banana split who's boss 8-)

Anyone have any idea how much health monsters typically have, that combo did like 1000 damage, I'm just curious as to what that would be as a health percentage

I think I'd be able to be a lot more patient if I knew how much I was doing after a stun

Theres usually wikis online that might have exact health numbers. I've turned off my damage numbers tho since I'm not a fan of how big they look in this game. Had them on in World but weren't nearly as distracting.

Hit High Rank last night after my first apex hunt. If it wasn't during a Ramage quest I'd prob enjoy the fight more but it was so damn hectic trying to keep up with what the heck it was doing at times with everything going on. Tho I don't wanna start HR stuff yet since I wanna take care of all the LR quest first. Only ranked up because of the license test in village >,>

I found the rampages hectic at first too but once you get used to them they're not too bad.

I didn't realise that counter signals raise your damage by an absolute ton (but only your own weapon) so you should basically not be on a gun when one is active

One of my hits did 1700 damage earlier, I can't imagine how much the great sword can do.
