Beyond hyped for skill switching. At first I was a little concerned with how much this would be supported compared to World but looks like there's nothing to worry about with how much content we're getting in this. Return of Chameleos has me over the moon too.

I wonder of after the first year of content they will then bring out a paid expansion like Icebourne, add some new areas or something.

The PC version is early next year so I can def see it happening. At first I originally felt they would reveal the Switch Pro with Rise, but now I have a hunch they plan to do that with the "Ultimate" version of the game. Makes sense if they want to tout it as a big upgrade alongside a more powerful system.

We have no confirmation of G rank right? It's likely they'll do a g rank expansion like iceborne

Another thing I'm looking forward to is the Like system with online hunts. I miss the community aspects of older MH games and as much as I liked doing SOS hunts to get things over and done with quick, you rarely ever connect with other hunters. It's still no Tri, but a step in the right direction.

Oh and finally getting some form of photo mode >,>

I really hated the way online worked in World, gave me very little motivation to hunt online when I could just grind gooseberry fool out on my own. I played like maybe 15 hours out of 200 online? Having the online and offline parts separated again is a huge step in the right direction; one of the best things about the older games was hopping online and running with a crew of randos for a couple of hours.

Tri nailed it with how it handled the hubs and different servers. So many great memories during the early days just hopping around and helping folks. World was a bit all over place and I never got into the online during the base game. Wasn't until mid/late game Iceborne I started doing SOS to make farming less of a drag. It was still pretty satisfying doing lower rank SOS to help out randoms tho lol. It's still too early to tell with Rise but I really hope the Like system at least creates some sense of community again.

I definitely played gen 4 more online, that was my sweet spot, but I liked Tri's server system. It's possible it wasn't enough for the larger volumes of traffic on 3DS, since I assume they went back to a P2P system, but I had good times on Tri.
World online was absolutely reserved for grinding for me as well; I'd basically just check every so often to see if something I needed was on SOS and join that. That and playing with friends sometimes.

I don't really get the likes; I assume it's like a streamlined guild card.

It's just a simpler way of keeping tabs on people you've played with. I think the game just prioritises those players whenever you want to hunt online with the courier system. If they're mutual likes then it's essentially like having another friends list.

I really don't like SOS and the idea of people joining mid-quest.

So what do you select from a list of rooms again and people you've liked will be at the top of the list?

This series in general has been moving away from the idea of prepping before a quest; you can do a lot of stuff in quest now. This is fine for some things but stuff like SOS isn't a good feature and more or less removes the element of prepping wherein you needed to form a team beforehand, agree on a quest, and everyone had to make sure they had the right inventories.

Yeah I love e.g. being able to constantly and easily craft more ammo mid-quest, but SOS feels like it strays over into cheating your way through, and I just don't get the balance of it with adjusting monster health based on the number of players. And yes, I like me some prepping.

I found that even being able to access my item box on a quest became a crutch for me where I wouldn't bother to learn monsters as much when I could more easily tank gooseberry fool. I guess that's a flaw with me, but I would prefer if the option wasn't there.
The SOS stuff has lead to a lot more people just letting others carry them through quests, which was much rarer in the older games.

Being able to eat on the quest is cool tho, but it should be a once per quest thing instead of having a cool down timer.

Agree with all of that tbh

Effectively unlimited healing items is kind of broken

Real gamers don't use SOS.

Thats what I'm assuming yeah. But again it's still too early to know how it fully works yet.
