How do you do that attack where you ride down the spine of the monster btw?
Aha the flashy gooseberry fool in world was new to me, took me a while to work it out. You press the attack button while in the sliding animation and you'll do it if you hit the monster, and you can also do it like in 4 Ultimate where you just dash off a ledge towards a monster while in demon mode.

I don't know about longsword but with the new HBG silkbind counter I didn't initially realise it would work on the Mizu's beam or even the bubbles
Yeah this. With LS you'll also want to build spirit gauge by doing the shoulder button combo when a monster's knocked down or in some other long animation. I don't remember exactly what it does, but maintaining some level of charge (ideally highest) means more damage.
IGN had interveiw with the Director and some interesting updates came up that I thought is also worth sharing.
Speaking of weapons, Ichinose hopes that players will switch weapons more frequently than before. While he understands the fun of becoming an expert in one specific weapon, with 14 vastly different weapons available, such players will only experience one fraction of Monster Hunter’s diversity.
“One reason for players to stick with the same weapon was always the fact that it takes so much time to upgrade weapons, which is why we decided to significantly reduce the amount of materials necessary to upgrade weapons for Rise,” Ichinose tells us.
A lot to take in with this one. New monsters looks amazing, glad leviathans are getting more love again. New Basarios design looks great. Also seems like they're bringing back Tri maps and remaking them, at least for the desert area which looks familiar. As Gen 3 fanboy I'm more than chuffed lol. The Rampage stuff also looks interesting but worried it might get tedious if it's something we have to constantly take on throughout the story.
