Did the tutorials and first hunt over lunch, it seems pretty good! Controls are taking me a while to relearn (especially having Generations muscle memory on Switch). Not sure how I feel about the riding yet, it feels like an expansion on mounting although mounting was a great mechanic as it was whereas riding could end up a little gimmicky. It seems like the bowgun wirebug attacks don't contribute to mount damage now either.

Dog drifting though, there is a gimmick I can get behind

Love what I've played so far. Looks and runs great as well but unfortunately there's a bug affecting some people when only playing online that makes it stutter every few seconds which basically makes it unplayable for me. Apparently you can get around it by not playing on the main account but I've only got one account on mine and can't be arsed pissing around making a new one.

Done both singleplayer hunts though and the other monsters that show up as well.

Is the demo time limited in any way, as in do I need to play it this weekend before it disappears or anything like that?

I want to try it out but not sure I'm going to have time for a while!

The online play in the demo is available until February 1st. There's a play limit for the demo too but you can just delete the save data to reset it.

Seems like eshop went down because of the traffic lol. Great to see the hype around this game. Rise is gonna sell like hotcakes >,> I can see them doing a second demo closer to release too.

Fixed the online stuttering :toot: Apparently there was a bug where it was caused by having over a certain amount of friends on your friends list.

Downloading demo now. I love demos as they show a huge amount of confidence in a game and raise hype. I've pre ordered the game as I put 200 + hours into MHW, brilliant and helpful gaming community and the grind is always rewarding.

Put sometime into the demo and I like it, it’s a bit overwhelming though with all the different options  I’ll put more time into it but I like the wire bug, wire bug into a wall, wall run, flip back then straight into another wire bug is a really cool combo of movement.

I can see me picking this up, will this have a story mode or is it just a menu of quests to kill monsters that you select from? Also, what’s the best weapon for a noob? I used the Dual Blades and they seemed quite good

It has a story (well MHW did) so cut scenes and a plot, normally a new land a big bad monster, a hunters quest to help etc.

The best thing about MH is all weapons are viable, I'd say give bow, dual blades and axe a go. All easy to use. The difference in damage between a heavy melee weapon and a light one is huge so it's nice to mix and match.

Also you'll end up having maybe 3 builds or more. So you can switch from one custom build of axe to a fast build of dual blades. Depending on monster.

The YouTube guides for each weapon and build guides are fantastic and give loads of ideas on what sort of set up to use.

The hunting horn is an absolute beast now wtf?

There's a story mode split into a series of hunting quests of different ranks, as well as a separate online mode.

I'd probably recommend sword & shield for absolute beginners.

Cheers, I’m guessing the story mode will ease all the options and features in? I need to practice more of the moving and attacking moves.

It's a very approachable game and made to welcome new people to the series. If you get into it then it's amazing value for money. It's also wonderful online, nothing beats everyone working together to beat a monster then when it runs off everyone chases it, finds it asleep and then we all put explosive barrels around it and then... Boom. Glorious stuff.

It does sound good, especially the online stuff, hopefully can get some GR hunts going once it’s out :datass:

Had a v quick bash at the Demo, just doing the basic training quest. Feels like a hell of a lot to take in as a newbie but it shows promise!

I feel like bowguns might be a bit let down here. Replacing mounting with riding means no more use in jump attacking, and the wirebug moves only cause ride damage for blademaster so gunners are at a net loss. The controls for wirebug moves also swap for gunners - L2 (then x/a/zr) when sheathed, but changes to R (then x/a) with the weapon out, because ZL is used for aiming. It's a slightly frustrating inconsistency that I'm struggling to get used to.

The game definitely feels a lot more like World than it does classic style Monster Hunter with the endemic life and approach to gathering. Monster tracking seems to just be not a thing at all now after being streamlined in World as you just get them marked on the map from the beginning?

I like palamutes but they are the final nail in the coffin for any sense of isolation the series once had (which has been declining since Freedom which is the first I played) thanks to their use as mounts and in addition to the much expanded traversal and things like fast travel. I'm definitely in the minority for caring about that though!

Part of me doesn't want to play the demo too much. I like feeling rusty and kinda want to keep it that way for main game. Part of the main fun with MH is those learning curves for me.

That’s probably just something they’ve done for the demo, same with the quest arrow pointing you right to the monster’s direction. They’ve done similar in previous demos.
