Exact same art as the normal box and they did absolutely zero texturing or anything

The Pokemon Sword/Shield one was exactly the same too.

Nintendo being Nintendo I guess

Yep. This has been a big obstacle for me and might have put my partner off it entirely. MonHun from what I hear has never been good for newcomers, and (some of) its fans revel in this aspect.

The characters explain stuff to you and then a giant text box pops up anyway

Why not just let me play the game and show me the text boxes when I encounter new stuff rather than front loading everything?

Theres an option to turn off tutorial stuff but it would have been nice to be given that choice at the start.

Currently slowly going through village quest. Even doing all the gathering ones because I wanna soak in as much as I can. Just hit 3 stars yesterday after Hunting Aknosom which was a really fun fight.

This series has been strawberry floating up tutorials since the beginning pretty much, and the harder they try the worse it gets. It's like almost designed to cater more to legacy players like me while driving away new fans, but World somehow managed to retain a decent playerbase.

World handled tutorials a lot better. The player base being much larger in general meant it was easier for newer folks to get help, especially with how much more straight forward online was.

MH was originally a huge obstacle in the past because of the lack of proper tutorials, so it's funny how it's now become the opposite lol.

MH4U and World were both way more accessible than previous games. Generations less so but it was explicitly a series celebration game aimed at pleasing existing fans.

This should arrive tomorrow, I've been enviously watching my girlfriend play and hearing updates from a friend who has it so I'm excited to jump in :toot:

For the newbies, I've found Arekkz & Gaijinhunter are basically the go to people for weapon/general guides. They definitely helped when I was new to World.

I started at Tri and I remember it having some attempts at tutorials in the beginning, but they were text boxes that paused the game and there weren't a huge amount of them. I played maybe 100-150 hours of 3rd gen and I didn't actually learn a lot of the mechanics until well into 4U

Tri is my personal fav MH game. It came out at the perfect time with being during the height of Wii and having online. I'd like to think it helped make a proper dent in the west for the first time with the series. Similar with World, I think the online helped newcomers get acquainted a lot easier. I even used to help out a lot with hopping to random lower rank servers.

I started with Freedom 1, but didn't really start obsessing over MH until Freedom 2/Unite. Those games had next to no tutorials and I remember it was all mostly trial and error. I would have killed for text pop ups back then LOL.

I knew like a couple of people who played second gen, maybe one who played first gen, comparatively I knew at least five people who played Tri. By my limited experience I would also say it was the beginning of MH's popularity over here.

I have good memories of Tri but I was pretty young at the time so I never got very far; I remember hitting a roadblock early on wherein I kept killing the great jaggi by accident during the first capture quest. I gave up for like a year until I went back and beat it; followed by similar experiences with a lot of monsters until I stopped around 5* village. To this date the only game in this franchise I played without significant internet research.

What a game. Still a personal highlight for me (even though 4U is a considerably better game).

I played Freedom Unite on the PSP but couldn't get into it at all because of the controls. I went all-in on 3 though, bought the collector's edition that came with the Wii Speak, black classic controller and a Lagiacrus head and I was hooked after that.

This is selling like hot cakes, unsurprisingly.

Tri is my least played generation, I never even had 3U as I got a 3DS for 4U. World is my next least played so I think its mostly handheld bias. I think Freedom Unite is still my most played due to playing at school.

I played something daft like 120+ hours of 4U in the first two weeks :dread:

4U is bittersweet for me because it was when I first got hit by burnout. I was ready to go all in on that game, even traded in my original 3DS with a bunch of games for a New 3DS model to play it. I loved everything about 4U and the setting. But around 40 hours or so I just hit this wall, something I've never felt with MH. It honestly sucked since this is like one of my fav series. I mostly blame myself since I did go pretty hard into 3U before that. But I really wasn't expecting to get hit that hard. I also ended up skipping Gen. Wasn't until World where my hype for MH got reignited.

I do like how expedition tours are now pretty much sandbox environments where nothing matters and the monsters keep coming for as long as you can hunt them - including larger monsters (which I'm pretty sure were absent from the ones in Gens Ultimate). There's a lot of quality of life stuff I'm enjoying here, along with the open maps.

Is the demo for this one that carries over your save? I still need to give it a go.

Demo doesn't carry saves but you do get some extra goodies for playing it.

I'm currently halfway through 3 star village. Prob playing a bit too slow but I really don't feel the need to rush this because I'm loving every second. SnS switch skills are perfect for my play styles too. Haven't felt this excited around a wep in a long time. Sandy Plains might be my fav map so far. The updated 3rd gen maps are amazing but this one just feels so great to traverse in. Also need to start doing the buddy scout stuff as I haven't even touched any of that yet >,> I wanna be able to interact with Rondine more lol.
