Brothers IP sold to 505 Games - Suggests more entries in the series could be underway.

The IP for Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons has been sold to 505 Games, the publisher behind Starbreeze's familial adventure, for $500K.

Brothers sold more than 800K copies since it launched in September 2013.

Since its release, Brothers director Josef Fares founded a new studio entitled Hazelight Studios, which has partnered with EA to make some game teased with a video showing a couple of men riding in a train boxcar.

"The sale represents our final transition to the digital strategy," said Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint. "With Brothers we've created a strong and critically acclaimed IP, which we now feel can be best nurtured under a new owner. Going forward, we will continue development focused on expansive design, a concept proven with the Payday-franchise. Brothers will continue to generate awe and admiration for the great storytelling standard Josef Fares set under 505 Games watchful eye."

President of 505 Games Ian Howe added, "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a remarkable game, one of the most affecting games of the last generation and one of which 505 Games has been very proud to be associated. This acquisition reflects 505 Games' stated strategy of owning and controlling its own IP, and, moreover, IP that can contribute something meaningful to the world of interactive entertainment."

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this. Hopefully 505 will make something worthwhile like the original and haven't bought the IP because they want to cash in on the name.

I still haven't even played the original. Looking forward to it being rereleased on ps4 this year.

Artistically, releasing a sequel is a bad idea, however I am happy that the developers now have more money to create new games.

Hmm. Hopefully it's a completely separate game, the original doesn't need any kind of follow-up, or spin-off, or whatever. It was a brilliant game though, far more effective in its storytelling than most other games, and had some wonderful and original moments.

If it's the same team, which it sounds like it is, then I'd be interested to see what else they could do.

It's not the same team or even development house.

Some of the original team went off and created a new dev (they are now making a game with EA), while Starbreez, the original dev, sold the IP to the original publisher 505 Games.

I'm with Brer, no need for a sequel.

Brothers doesn't need a sequel. But I wouldn't mind seeing the same idea with a different story set in the same world. Or taking the mechanic and going to a completely new setting.

Yeah, that would be preferred over something which continued the story of the original.

Yeah, so I completely misread the OP. Anyway...I echo what's been said above. Intrigued to see what Mr Fares comes up with next.

Having played this a while ago on PS4, I've just found it on GamePass today. And completed it. Lovely game. Really like it
