Most Memorable Foods

Some foods really have an amazing power to take us to a specific time and place. Tonight I had some saltine crackers, something which I rarely ever eat and the taste made me instantly remember kindergarten as we used to get saltine crackers along with a glass of apple juice for our snack. Before this year, when my wife started buying them, I probably hadn't had them since I was in kindergarten but every time I have one it makes me remember that memory.

What food has the strongest association to a particular memory for you?

I can't think of any foods that take me back to childhood, but my son recently had an ear infection and was prescribed Amoxicillin. The second I opened the bottle I could smell it and it instantly took me back to being a kid. Mmmmm banana penicillin. :datass:

Oh god yes, i loved that stuff, even now i enjoy banana flavoured yoghurts and the like because they taste very similar.

When I have raisins out of a little cardboard packet it takes me back to being in infant school.

Also mini Jaffa cakes. Them things bring instant excitement and nostalgia, as do party rings(although I dislike these now).

For more adult memories, olives take me back to the first time I tasted them and enjoyed them. I was on a date with a really nice girl so that probably is why.

Cheap Cider takes me straight back to my teenage days of drinking in the local playground and causing a rumpus.

Home made rice pudding gives me flashbacks of being in my grandmas house when I was very small.

Malibu is the alcoholic drink that takes me back to a horrible spew moment as a teen. I'd got twated on the stuff, passed out drunk, woke up the next morning, went in shower, stole some of my friends shampoo she had left there...guess the smell. Coconut, I threw up everywhere in the shower. Easy to get clean though!

Liver.

I had to eat it at primary school and now I simply refuse to go anywhere near it. I can't even remember what it tastes like I just remember that I wasn't allowed to leave the table until it was all eaten and I've had a grudge against it ever since

I used to love these as a kid, would sit down in front of the TV on a sunday afternoon and gorge on them.

As far as i know they were discontinued some time during the 90's, along with the store which sold them (Kwik Save).

Tubble Gum, gum in a tube. strawberry floating vile and super sweet.

Also the gooseberry fool rock hard gum you got in packs of stickers. Like He-Man and Jurassic Park. Pink poison but very nostalgic.

Generally I'm not that bothered about food but Sunday lunch is one of the few times the whole family ate together (and still does a lot).

Probably the smell of various Japanese foods since my holidays to Japan are some of the best times of my life.

Tomato soup reminds me of the time I had an abscess in the root of a tooth when I was a kid. I had to get the tooth pulled and required a general anaesthetic. I was still a little woozy when I got home but my mother asked if I wanted anything to eat and I went for a tin of tomato soup.

As soon as I was done I promptly brought it all back up all over the living room floor and I've never eaten it since. Just the smell of it now makes me a little queasy.

Fortunately, I didn't have that issue when I had to have the same done for an abscess. Though I just had to have local anaesthetic

I was told when I had my tonsils removed at 5 after I woke up from the anaesthetic I was awake from the afternoon until the next morning running around the hospital like it made my very hyper or something :lol:

My nan still doesn't seem impressed with having to chase me around all night. :lol:

Heinz Sandwich Spread, Used to love it as a kid and would often have it on a slice of toast (or just plain bread) as an afternoon snack.

It's not a specific food, but every now and then I'll eat something with that artificial purple grape flavouring, and it hurls me right back to about Year 2, standing outside the classroom whilst my teacher did the register. As she did it, we'd each be handed a little violet-coloured pill with that exact fake-grape taste, that we duly ate, and to this day I have absolutely no clue what it was for.

It could have been a vitamin or a bloody sedative for all I know, and everyone I've ever talked to about it looked at me like a strawberry floating lunatic! :slol:

Candy Corn. I know its gooseberry fool and people hate it but it reminds me of our big family holiday in Diseny when I went completely overboard on it as a kid.
