Most unfair game?

What games have you played that you felt were just unfair?
This doesn't just mean hard but unbalanced and unfair and just almost trying to be anti-fun.

Fade, Chalky and I are trying to slog through Back 4 Blood on the easiest difficulty level and we've been struggling like strawberry float with many, many failures. The game just chucks so many special enemies at you and they can and will just decide to pop into existence behind you. The sound design means a hulking 20-foot tall monster can sneak up on you like Ninja's and enemies attacking you from behind slow you to a crawl just in case you felt like running away was an idea.

The 3 of us have played quite a few co-op multiplayer games together and never struggled as much as this and we normally play on normal so being destroyed on easy is just demoralising.

I've had a look at the Reddit on the game and the player numbers have plummeted due to the simply ridiculous difficulty and unfairness and the developers don't seem to care. The few who are defending it all give the same "Get gud" but when a game has a normal difficulty that hardly anyone can complete surely there's a problem?

So, who else has known this pain?

Edit, I put Left 4 Dead in initially but meant Back 4 Blood.

The Back4Blood devs are actually working on a patch to make it easier…

Can highly suggest turning on subtitles and closed captions for Back 4 Blood. It tells you if and what special infected spawns.

Watching some people play through Dokapon Journey, a little while after they played through Dokapon Kingdom. Granted it's a board game akin to Mario Party, and the events do follow set rules, but said events are vicious. The latest major random event was to just reset all map progress back to 0. And if you capture the current major target town, it seems it's usually the person in last place that gives up some of their own money/towns as a reward, just because.

I'm also currently doing a Four Job Fiesta run of Final Fantasy V and there have been some bosses and enemy formations where they just go "Ok, you don't get to play this fight. Enjoy the turn 1 party wipe."

Most of it can be mitigated, but equipment customisation in that game is pretty limited so you can't really just build for general encounters when things get spicy.

At the moment the only way to play the game seems to be trying to speed run everything and get into as few fights as possible.
The game seems designed for people with maxed out card deck boosters and the best weapons but to get those requires you to grind for bloody ages.
For a game that's advertised as being about fighting the undead making it so that actually fighting the undead is an almost certain death sentence is just odd.

They've been saying that for a while and have done nothing as far as I can see.
They've nerfed the melee build because it was actually a bit effective and now everyone's just as shite.

Naughty Dog games on higher difficulties are notorious for being very cunty. I binned off Uncharted 4 because there's a bit on the island just before the end which is a strawberry floating joke. I seem to remember the final boss on Killzone 2 being a bollocks as well. Warping around a room firing rockets.

Speaking of the PS3. The first Motorstorm had some ridiculous rubber banding in it which made the game nigh on impossible on higher difficulties, especially if you were going after trophies. Like it was incredibly blatant how much they would cheat, probably some funny YouTube videos of it. Some one worked out though that they could only cheat when your camera wasn't on them so if you just got in front and kept looking back to see where they were the game suddenly became quite easy

I mean, it's any fighting game final boss right? You're engaging in totally balanced one on one battles with an equally matched opponent, and then suddenly you're up against

Wasn't aware of Dokapon Journey! Me and my friends played through Dokapon Kingdom (on the Wii) and it it certainly has a memorable approach to balance  I think it was my friend who was most in last place who ended up winning thanks to repeatedly making deals with the devil, so I guess it all worked out? The most unfair part of the game was probably how it has lots of cool advanced jobs, but they have such specific unlock requirements and then need levelling that trying to go for them just puts you at a disadvantage. One friend spent ages in a casino specifically trying to unlock some job and by the time he finally did I had gotten so far ahead from claiming towns and just levelling as a basic mage!

Dokapon Journey looks a fair bit less accessible as a DS game unfortunately.

Uncharted is ridiculous for all the bullet sponge enemies. I enjoyed the high difficulty of the online co-op in Uncharted 2 at least, but definitely agree on the singleplayer! Other Naughty Dog games are alright though I think, TLOU works a lot better as higher difficulties just push you towards being stealthy.

Hopefully we can all agree that it is one of the two....

Came in to see if the DO4 Ffinal boss had been mentioned. It has, so my life's purpose has been met and now time to fade away in my sleep like old Yoda, returning occasionally as a ghost to berate people.

Pandemic, the Xbox version of the board game (ported from a mobile version). The negative events, which should be random, are totally weighted against the players. If something can go against you, it will. It’s bullshit.

I can't believe you would say that, you know that's one of my biggest triggers, how could you be so insensitive????

Actually RNG in general for any game makes me sick
