I've put 250hrs into this game which puts it in the Football Manager / Civ tier of time sinks.

Normally the cars run in a more conistent order a bit like a normal F1 grid, but I've tweaked this database so the cars are a bit more balanced in terms of performance, so the grids might get a bit more mixed up and so it isn't the same old every race. In my normal game it's taken me 8 years to get Archer BMR from League 3 to top of the mid pack in the top league, and I'm probably two seasons from closing that gap.

You have to balance infrastructure spend against part investment against next year's car investment, spending money on drivers, race mechanics, pit crew and chief engineers, all with their own independent stats and costs, so it can be really involved and you genuinely have to make calls about when to spend and when to scrap a year. You do have to choose how you design your upgrades, so you can develop rule bending parts that are much better but may get picked up in scrutineering, and you can only further improve the parts you have already made so much.

In race, I'm normally much more closely monitoring my driver's and tweaking their engine and tyre usage. I've set it up so I litetally can't do this which means the AI will self manage as I wanted to focus on the whole grid, rather than my two drivers. Normally, the drivers have to lose faith in the team before this trait kicks in. So the blasé strategy stuff I'm doing isn't even close to how much you can impact the game. For a start, Round 4 was the first race I didn't simulate Practice (I was worried I was going to get fired if we did badly) and the set up performance was near perfect Vs the 85% or so I could achieve from simulating. And so the underlying performance jumped up. I'll go back to simulating going forward for fairness.

Totally worth getting if you want a Football Manager-esque game for F1

Asia Pacific SuperCup - Round 6

Image

Garth was able to squeak past Balladeer to win the Japanese GP. This puts some daylight between the two title protagonists with 5 races to go. Garth has also single-handedly pulled Espirit GP into one point of the MacNeils in the Constructors.

Mafro scored 4th place in his home race, and has allowed Team Kirov to pull ahead of MRT Valbuena for fourth.

MHTL scored an important point for Lucatelli, allowing them to jump Zampelli for 8th on countback.

TheWatchingArtist finished just outside the points, still chasing that first elusive points score for the Japanese outfit Ozu Motor Sport. He'll be disappointed to not convert at the team's home GP.

European Racing League - Round 6

Image

Image

Faceman did an outstanding job in Munich to finish 8 seconds clear of the chasing field, and with the extra points for fastest lap, has started to build a lead in the Driver's Championship over 2nd place Frankenstein.

WithoutaKat's 7th place puts him on 22 points from two races, meaning he is fast closing in on his predecessor's total points tally of 36 points from four races.

Photek and Denster's 3rd and 4th have allowed Octane Racing to close the gap to Eastwood Motorsport at the top of the rankings. Faceman's performance may not be enought to gain the Eastwood team promotion if Peds doesn't improve on the 13th he achieved today, which matches his championship position.

Asia Pacific SuperCup - Round 7

Image

Image

The paddock is beginning to think Garth has this Driver's Championship sewn up as he won again in Dubai, taking his season tally to three wins, 15 seconds ahead of his closest challenger Balladeer who finished 3rd. Espirit are now also beginning to create a gap in the Constructors, the point system in this league allowing Garth to single-handedly win the Constructors title.

TheWatchingArtist was again pipped to a point, with MHTL improving to finish 5th, one place higher than last time out. Could this late charge could allow Lucatelli to reach mid-table?

GRcade Cup - Round 5 - Qualifying

For the second time in a row, Kinopio leads a Chariot front row lock out. Both of Kinopio's laps were good enough for pole, half a second faster than Cheeky's Rossini. RedDog was heard complaining to Devlin that the team had given Kinopio all the best parts and cost him pole position. Sources inside the team reveal that Roon had targeted this race as their "last, best hope" for a podium and developed the car all season to target it's characteristics to this race. The factory hasn't produced any new parts over the last few weeks and the team's development focus has entirely turned to next season. There are some mutterings about how much further forward they might have been, as rival teams have begun to overhaul Chariots' Front Wing advantage, the Rossini and Steinmann's now considered the most efficient on the grid. This means it is also Red Dog's best hope of a points finish this season.

With the exception of Falsey, all the main title protagonists are at the sharp end of the grid, with the number twos also between Falsey and his rivals. Cuttooth will also be happy to qualifying within a tenth of his new teammate.

Windsor Racing will be hoping Satriales and Kanbei can move forward, otherwise they'll lose the top spot in the Constructors championship.

Cortex will need to move forward a couple of places to get some decent points for the embattled Kitano Sport. Their manager is rumoured to be out of a job before the season is out.

Tyres-wise, the optimal strategy is most likely a double hard one stop. However, it is expected most drivers will go for a two-stop race.

GRcade Cup - Round 5 - Results

Image

Image

Vermilion taking the race win with a surprising contra-strategy of soft-hard one stop, allowed him to leapfrog Kinopio for the race win. Vermilion was racey throughout, trading places early doors with rival Devlin. Kinopio may be disappointed with only finishing 2nd after seemingly doing everything required of him to keep the field behind him, but 2nd is a season best finish for Chariot.

Devlin managed to maintain his consistency throughout the season with third place, but that race win continues to elude the Rossini driver. Mildew kept close to the championship contenders, finishing 4th and retaining
the lead in the Drivers by two points. The media believe this is now a three horse race with Kanbei falling back with his 7th place finish.

Captain RedDog will probably take 6th place, with his first scoring finish of the season. Floydfreak leapfrogs to the top of the number two leaderboard with his 5th place finish, although remains 5 points behind Kinopio in the Driver standings.

Panther Racing are now top of the Constuctors championship, but there are only 3 points between four teams in this hotly contested championship. Rezatto Corsa finished dead last in the race, and they'll have to be hoping that their rivals don't score any points and beat them to 7th in the Constructors, with this league determining prize money payouts.

Things are set up really well for an exciting final run in to the end of the season. Four teams in the running for the Constructors, 3 Drivers fighting for the Driver's title. Mathematically, anyone in the top 10 could still be champion, so there is even still time for a massive upset.

Asia-Pacific Supercup - Round 8 of 11

Image

Image

Kerr9000 wins the Brazilian GP to promote himself to 6th in the standings.

At the top of the table, Garth finishes 2nd to all but confirm himself as the APS Season Champion, with Balladeer finishing well outside the points. Espirit are also 9pts clear making them firm favourites for promotion from MacNeil Racing, with Chocolate Milk picking up some points to keep the team in the hunt.

Laga and Mafro finished 3rd and 5th for a great result for Team Kirov, however Kerr's win mean that the still drop behind the MRT Valbuena in the race for fourth.

TWA finally scores that maiden point for Ozu Motor Team, and keeps a slim hope of relegation being averted.

European Racing League - Round 8 of 10

Image

Image

Tondela provided a surprise podium with Corazon winning from SEP and Jawa. SEP however brought home the most points as she secured the fastest lap. This result means that Garuda Racing, with Jawa 3rd and Rubix 4th are now in the fight for third in the constructors, with Firebird scoring poorly.

Perhaps most shockingly of all, Frankenstein's 5th was enough to give him to overhaul Faceman and gain a 6pt lead, with Faceman only achieving 17th place. There are enough drivers in striking distance if these two title challengers decide to take each other out in the next two races.

Jenuall's 18th means that Silva didn't score enough points to leap to the top of the Teams Championship, but the gap is near enough nothing at 2pts with two races to go.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these leagues pan out. APS race 9 and Quali for the GRcade Cup tomorrow.

Other news:
Cuttooth is hinting at retirement! Move to Van Dort thought to be his swansong.
Neo Cortex is expected to announce his retirement! Sources say he checked out weeks ago.

Asia Pacific SuperCup - Round 9 of 11

Image

Image

Big stories coming out of Australia this weekend, with Balladeer leading a MacNeil 1-2 to close the Driver's championship lead down to 7pts to Garth, who finished only 10th in a rare blip in form. This gives MacNeil fans some hope of winning both championships, with the team also 9pts clear in the Constructors with Milner also not picking up any points.

MHTL achieved a fantastic podium in his Lucatelli, leaping the team to 6th in the Constructors and himself to 8th in the Drivers. Tsunade's 4th keeps Zampelli in the hunt, and leaves Ozu with a mountain to climb.

Lagamorph's point puts him level with Kerr in both championships, 6th and 4th respectively being too close to call with two to go.

GRcade Cup - Round 6 of 7 - Qualifying

Image

Mr Saturday - Capt Kinopio with his third pole in a row. He'll be hoping to go one better this weekend and convert that this into a win. Red Dog following up in 2nd showing the Chariot is still an excellent car on Saturdays.

Devlin and Mildew are on the 2nd row with the other major title contender Vermilion starting down in 8th. Falsey and Kanbei remain in contention starting 7th and 5th, with the other outside bets in the top 11.

LewisD will most likely be happy with 12th, ahead of all his rivals except RedDog. Cuttooth will have to deactivate Torpedo mode, starting only in 18th.

The timespread across the field is really small on this short track, so expect lots of action tomorrow.

Half a second up on the rest of the field.

Shame about those early botched strategy calls and starting with a cruddy car, could have fought for the title. Still have to give it to the team in how they’ve improved the car with limited resources and switching to focus on next season early.
