7/10

Perhaps as a result of the hilariously over-negative reactions to this I suffered from lowered expectations but I enjoyed the movie. I liked it more on the first watch than I did the original Avengers on the first watch, which bored me utterly until the helicarrier attack. Avengers is a more coherent film though.

There were notable problems with BVS but the good outweighed the bad.

1. Knightmare and pretty much every dream sequence bar the Wayne murders should have been cut. Disrupted pacing too much though I did like Knightmare itself. Presumably Bruce saw the vision as a result of Metron or some speed-force shenanigans but it shouldn't have been where it was in the movie. They should have tried a post-credits scene with it if they really wanted to use it.

2. What little I saw of Flash's costume I hated. Ezra Miller looks more like Adam Driver than Barry Allen.

3. Smallville's Doomsday looked a lot better. Smallville's. I'm resolved to Smallville's Lex being best so I didn't hate Eisenberg that much at all. It was pretty much what I expected.

4. Maybe I missed it but did Cyborg's dad explain where that Mother Box came from? I'm assuming it was a Mother Box.

5. I really liked Wonder Woman in this. There wasn't much but they conveyed her fighting style well so I'm looking forward to her solo film.

6. Batman shouldn't kill people because if he did do that, there's no justification for the Joker or any of his rogue's gallery still being alive. Affleck was good in the role though.

7. Superman was a lot better and more likeable in this than Man of Steel. Cavill captured Clark well.

Too soon to give BVS a full ranking compared to other super hero films but I preferred it to a lot of the MCU.

Hated that Batman was having all these premonitions like some sort of prophet, it just doesn't fit with the character at all.

And with regards to Batman's manslaughter, which again is such a misdirection, I can see another backlash from this and they'll turn it into a storyline on just why he has become a murderer. It just goes against everything that Batman stands for, the crazy thing is, for so much Synder took from TDKR he completely mis-judges Batman. Batman even says in the TDKR about guns, 'these are weapons of our enemies, we do not need it, we will not use it'. Now I'm thinking Synder can't actually read and purely looked at the pictures.

There's one bit where he drives over a truck with a bazooka guy and the bazooka guy is fine two minutes later so I assumed the earlier scene where he explodes a machine gunner was just awful direction. Of course then at the end of the film he shoots up some guys with the Batwing and explodes a flamethrower man.

6.5/10(7 seemed too high): 'Twas grand, a bit long but isn't almost every comic book movie these days. Cut the dreams. Ben Affleck is the best movie version of Batman so far. Wonder Woman was great. Doomsday did look a bit gooseberry fool but whoever said the Smallville Doomsday looked better is on crack.

9/10
Really enjoyed it and don't know why its getting so many bad reviews.

Superman is a bit dumb though lol. Ben Affleck did a fantastic job as Batman and Wonder Woman was amazing. O and Lex Luther was played so well!

Saw it in 3D which was quite good. I want to go see it again now.

I'm a big fan of Superman so was happy when I learnt of The Man of Steel (and started the thread about it to boot!). I loved the beginning but my main criticism was that it turned into one big action sequence and we never got to know Clark Kent or know Superman/Clark's character. Zac Snyder was strong on action but bad on the human side. He was clumsy telling with the Jesus allegory, for example Superman in church with the stain glass window of Jesus behind him.

So on a whim I booked to see Batman Vs Superman today and after the reviews proclaiming this to be bad I was fully expecting it to be shite - it wasn't. I went in with low expectations and as it started and things started happening I kept feeling more and more relieved that it wasn't terrible! It was actually quite decent in setting up the story and going into the action. The Batman origin story told yet again seemed unnecessary yet explains his motivation. Ben Affleck was a good Batman! Gruff with humanity and I warmed to him far more than Christopher Bale.

What I really hoped to see was more of Clark (the man) and whilst we saw Clark at The Daily Planet and some integration with his mum he still felt like a stranger, he only ever spoke about plot-related matters, there was no glimpse of the man behind the costume. The big problem with this movie is that you see characters but you never see them in their ordinary life, you just see them taking part in the action plot of the movie, you never see their private life, at least not much. After watching this I felt I knew Affleck's Batman far better that Cavil's Superman, not because of a lack of acting ability but because the role has been underwritten. The whole reason for the Versus in the movie title did seem contrived but i thoroughly enjoyed seeing the two come to blows.

Gal Gadot looked great as an Amazonian woman, athletic, pretty, clever and she wore an evening dressed that cleverly teased her other outfit. It was a great decision not to hire a standard blue-eyed American actress and that Warner Bros. instead went for Israeli Gadot, she's not greek but she more truthfully represents Diana Prince's ethnicity then an alternative Jennifer Lawrence type. She showed character in her interactions with Bruce Wayne but there was not enough dialogue to tell how strong a fit she is but I think she will be marvellous fully fleshed out in her own movie. Lex was bad and this version of Doomsday weakened the origin.

Honestly, this is not a bad or broken movie at all. Whilst the characterisation is lacking and underwritten the action and story are fast paced and despite the long running time keep your attention and the action at the end gets appropriately intense. I enjoyed it, I was never bored, but don't expect to come out of the movie knowing Clark Kent any better.

I look forward to seeing DC movies by other directors.

A couple of minor spoiler talking points / questions.
* I found it weird that Superman flew to save the girl from the fire and then we saw the reaction as he returned her home. This was the start of the film so why couldn't we see how he operates, why couldn't we see him in action saving her?

* The sequence with Batman making the business deal in the lorry. I thought it was fantastic because all of a sudden we saw how HE operates. There was that one big long shot of him fighting all these different people and those other creatures (which I gather from this thread are agents of Darkseid). I was just peed off that it was a dream.

* Considering the ending, for this movie it was so important for Superman/Clark to be well depicted and for the audience to care about him. Because we didn't the ending lacked the emotional punch required - I'd say this is the only area the movie actually failed.

* Also Wayne Manor is a burnt out husk. Is this meant to link with the continuity of the Christopher Nolan movies?

* I know 80s/90s origin Cyborg. What is the cube thing?

- Nolan films aren't canon. Maybe Joker attacked it when he murdered Robin.
- I'm assuming it was a Mother Box (a supercomputer from Apokolips) as the most recent origin for Cyborg has him merging with one. It didn't say where Cyborg's dad found one though.

Ahh so that's who that was. The only reason I had even the faintest idea was because he sort of looked like the character from Teen Titans.

No real spoilers here, but just in case:
I saw this today. I thought it was entertaining, I liked Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot a lot, and the actual Batman vs. Superman bit was really good. It wasn't a masterpiece but I think 3/10 worst film ever is a bit harsh.

Saw this tonight

Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know what the strawberry float was going on with that dream sequence. I thought the winged bastards were just symbolism and them being Darkseid's minions didn't cross my mind. Twigged on that it was Flash at the end of it but I think a lot of people will see it and think it's just a random shouty bloke. Didn't understand why Bruce seemingly didn't recognise that the bloke he saw in the dream and the guy he sees on the security camera are the same person nor does he make any mention of this to WW at the end.

Want to go read TDKR now

Saw it last night. Definitely doesn't deserve the bad reviews it's getting, wasn't a masterpiece either but is a solid 7/10.

I hate you all. If Affleck is actually decent I might have to watch this after all.

Although claims that he's the best Batman are pretty strawberry floating bold.

He's absolutely fine. Not as good as Bale. My main issue with the casting is Jesse Eisenberg, he simply isn't Lex Luthor.

Bale would've been a better Batman if he didn't do the stupid voice and gurning face.
