Unlikely, it'll make a ton of money and if Marvel want the rights back they'll have to prize them out of Sony's cold dead hands

Pretty sure I read a quote from someone pretty high up in Sony's movie division saying that they would never let the spider-man rights go and if for some reason it doesn't make as much money as they like they'll just keep rebooting it :dread: :dread:

Seriously post-Avengers 2 making another billion plus Marvel/Disney need to just go on a spending spree getting back all their franchises no matter what the cost.

The cost of the Spider-Man franchise has to be in the billions for Sony though

How much did Disney buy Marvel for though? Seriously a well done Spidey film franchise by marvel studios + Spidey in Avengers films will probably pay for itself.

In fairness, all the Spider Man films have been train wrecks, albeit with less fatalities in first two. The problem lies in the ridiculously camp selection of villians the studio have to decide between. No mainstream superhero has a worse collection of foes.

Giamatti is both the best and worst thing about this film.

Spider-Man 2 was absolutely not a "train wreck".

It's still one of my favourite superhero movies.

I'm always amazed at the retrospective hate thrown at Raimi's films. First is solid, second is quality (Raimi really hit his stride here). While the third one is flawed with quite a few missteps, I'd still rather have it than the borefest, messy, retread that is 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

It won't happen for years if ever but I'd love a film about Superior Spider-Man. AKA the most entertaining Spider-Man.

The first Raimi Spidey was very good. The second one was stupendous.

The hate they get is absolutely strawberry floating mystifying.

Alfred Molina is still one of the best comic book film baddies going. Loved that movie. Even the ridiculous train bit.

Train bit > ASM's Crane section...

I think one of the main issues is the ridiculous over the top patriotism/messiah stuff that Spidey seems to get in all the films... It doesn't to me seem to make any sense as I always thought he was meant to be quite, normal and jokey rather than the saviour of the world...

Order must be 2>1>ASM>3

I'm amazed at the superlatives the Raimi Spider Man films are getting. Probably not train wrecks to be fair, but solid at best. Maybe I just don't get Spider Man.

I'm amazed that the first two films get the hate they do. Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies ever

Definitely. I don't know why so many people retrospectively changed their opinion on the first two films after seeing the third.

Same goes for the X-Men series and X2. Everyone hating Wolverine has made it popular to hate on the second film, and I'd probably say that was one of the best superhero movies ever too.

Still think of this as a backhanded compliment. One of the best in a sub-genre that has produced few to no excellent films.

Wasn't there rumours some sort of disagreement/beef going on between the directer and the studio for Spider-Man 3? Raimi didn't want to include Venom in the story, but the studio wanted him in due to the character's popularity or something like that?
