Another boring, grimdark, humourless Batman film that looks like it’s afraid to be a comic book film. Can’t wait :?

Its style gives me about as much excitement as a remaster of a single generation old game.

I don't know a lot about Batman outside of the films, but aren't the comic books also done in a dark style?

No-one's saying Batman has to be doing wisecracks but the new Batman film looks so visually boring. Compare the design of the Riddler.

Comic book-style visuals would simply not match with the style they're clearly aiming for, though. It would be a totally incoherent juxtaposition.

I don't mind that, but I can't think of much more boring action than watching Batman stand up to two men hitting him with AK47 rounds from close range. That's shite enough as it is with supernatural superheroes, let alone a regular bloke in a fancy costume.

As I understand it, the Riddler motivation in The Batman is apparently based off the Batman Earth One: Volume 2 graphic novel depiction. If that's the case, then
the Riddler's riddles aren't meant to be solved - his 'random' targets can't be saved because he's actually working for Cobblepot's criminal network and taking out their political targets, albeit in mass deaths that make the intent harder to spot.

We’re keeping the faith amongst this moaning rabble brother, wanting lime green 3 piece suits and wisecracks like it’s Batman Forever or some gooseberry fool.

And yet what stands out to me is that many shots in the trailer very much resemble the kinds of imagery you'd see in a Greg Capullo/ Scott Snyder comic.

I do not agree with folk comparing this to the Nolan trilogy either.

Technically I guess you could say this compares to Batman Begins, but certainly not Dark Knight or Rises. Whereas those two films took the characters out of their world and reimagined them in a post 9/11 context, it's like Matt Reeves has brought them back through that rift and into a world that'll feel familiar to anyone who's read any of the New 52 stuff.

Yes, it's dark and gritty. The characters are being adapted in much the same way Nolan would've done. However I really do believe none of that will make The Batman any less distinct and the trailer proves that imo.

Interesting to read your thoughts. I never made a connection between 9/11 and the latter two Nolan films.

A lime green suit isn’t necessary, but something akin to what Purple Man wore in Jessica Jones would fit. Something grounded but still showing that he’s playing mind games. I always thought the Riddler was meant to be a counterpoint to Batman being the worlds greatest detective in that they were always trying to outthink each other. Rather than some trenchy WW1 gas mask wearing weirdo making puzzles in his mums basement.

Do we even know for sure that that's The Riddler in that outfit?

I'm always puzzled why everyone just doesn't move away from Gotham City.
It has all the worlds crime lords and Batman isn't exactly worried about criminal damage he causes while crime fighting.
Home insurance prices must be insane.
