Seriously though, it's an impressive trailer, and it feels like there's a lot of potential. Weirdly it reminded me a lot of A Scanner Darkly, the way it leans so heavily into the drug/trippy stuff, but obviously without the cel shading. It all feels very self referential, which could go two ways in the final film, either some deep layered plot with multiple layers that play off audience expectations, or it's going to fall into fan service emptiness. I am genuinely disappointed that it doesn't seem to have that Matrix look to it.

It’s a line written into the script literally for the same reason ‘You cannot be told what the Matrix is, you have to see it for yourself’ was written into the original. For the trailer. It will likely have strawberry float all relevance to the plot of the movie. It’s probably a dream he had or something or the name of his new app.

Very good trailer but still not convinced there’s another story to tell. The drug/Alice in Wonderland references were aplenty so perhaps they’re taking another angle on the outsiders rejecting reality thing? And it wasn’t clear whether it was Neo and Trinity rather than new takes on the characters.

I dunno, I’d love to be excited about this but I just can’t be.

I'm thinking the pills are something neo thinks everyone has to take. They're in fact dampeners, and when neo decides to stop he starts exhibiting powers which is when the agents turn up

There was far too much "remember the first movie!!!!" stuff in the trailer, but I can understand why they would lean into that so much, nostalgia is a huge influencer and the first one was the only good one after all.

I just hope they keep it simple, in terms of the functional structure of the plot, that's the thing the first movie achieved that the sequels strawberry floated up by going way too far up their own arses. The first movie, from a beat to beat narrative perspective, is actually relatively simplistic, but it's dressed very well in solid pacing, impressive spectacle and a healthy dose of set dressing lore
