I hope it doesn't try to add to much depth to Maverick. All I want is airplanes, ridiculous volleyball games, people buzzing the tower, cool call signs and a hard assed commander chewing the scenery.

Top Gun is like The Goonies in that it does rely somewhat on Nostalgia to carry it. I think The Goonies is brilliant because it reminds me of being a kid adventuring in the woods and countryside near my home but I only really properly watched Top Gun in the last 5 years and it's a very mixed film. The sex scene reshoots are pretty dire and under a modern lens it's basically s story of unrequited physical love between Maverick and Iceman.

Basically both actors were shooting other films and came back to reshoot to accommodate test audience feedback - and they looked different with hair changes and such.

Although I’ve never had an issue with the scene at all personally thought it all just fit in with how cheesy 80’s it all was

Ah thanks for explaining.

Gonna look for that on next watch! Never noticed a change in that scene but was prob more focused elsewhere at the time as a 10 year old. :shifty:

I watched the matrix recently and thought it had really badly dated, but I reckon this will stand the test of time as like you say it's unapologetic cheesy 80s. (see also Beverly Hills Cop, Highlander, Karate Kid)

This happened in Cocktail too. There’s a pivotal scene where Cruise inexplicably has his much longer hairstyle from Rain Man.

If you believe in Xenu hard enough then you can make your hair grow and retract at will.

A day late, but happy 30th birthday to everyone's 3rd-favourite Alien film... Alien 3 :toot:

I know it's a very divisive film but I personally always enjoy watching it, it's got such an oppressive and nihilistic atmosphere and I always felt it was the most realistic way to end Ripley's story arc. She would never be free of the xenomorph so she took her fate into her own hands and went out fighting, taking the alien with her, what a boss :datass:

Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge it.

Alien 3 and Terminator 3.

Released after two superb previous films.
Flawed, but underrated.
Great shock ending.
Franchise should have stopped there.

Looks pretty good, if a bit by the numbers. The CGI stood out a bit towards the end, you just can't fake that dangerous set-piece sort of stuff from yesteryear.

Looks like perfectly serviceable background noise whilst I mark books on a Sunday afternoon.

 wow it's real as well. Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain in January this year so anyone can make a film about it now.

They should spice it up by setting it in space.
Space makes everything 27.5% better.

Winnie the Pooh's in public domain now? Time to get working on the space adventure where Winnie is an evil overload who's stolen all the galaxy's honey.
