It doesn’t look great but I don’t think it’s a remake, looks like a sequel to me.

It is a sequel/spin-off. This one is set in London though as opposed to New York.

Hellboy is looking better than MIB: International to my eye.

If there's a certain amount of things you can do to enhance a concept, add to or tell a great story using the iconography (preferably in interesting ways) of something like MIB, then I say go for it. Most times it does boil down to a glossier retread with nowhere in mind to lead the franchise, but brand recognition is a powerful tool - maybe the reason why we may think the number of original movies is so small, because they get buried under the weight of nostalgia.

I see that Bryan Cranston has been taking flak for acting again, bloody actors and their acting

BBC News wrote:Bryan Cranston has defended playing a disabled character in his latest film, saying his casting as a man with quadriplegia was "a business decision."

In The Upside, the US actor plays a wheelchair-using billionaire who hires a former criminal, played by comedian Kevin Hart, to be his live-in carer.

"As actors we're asked to play other people," said the Breaking Bad star.

Cranston said the subject was "worthy for debate" and there should be "more opportunities" for disabled actors.

Yet he maintained he was entitled to play characters whose attributes and abilities differed from his own.

"If I, as a straight, older person, and I'm wealthy, I'm very fortunate, does that mean I can't play a person who is not wealthy, does that mean I can't play a homosexual?" he mused.

"I don't know, where does the restriction apply, where is the line for that?" he told the Press Association.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Dwayne Johnson are among others who have faced criticism for playing disabled characters.

Cranston says it's worthy for debate, so what do you all think of this issue?

Olivia Coleman just won a Golden Globe for playing a Queen, but as far as I know she has no connection to the Royal Family at all.

Why didn’t they let Princess Eugenie take the role instead of giving it to the woman from Peep Show? :x

I was bitterly disappinted when Bryan Cranston was given the role of Zordan in Power Rangers, because as far as I'm aware, he is not from another planet, and he has never been trapped in a time warp by an evil witch. :x

I, for one, was disappointed that Tom Cruise wasn't permanently paralysed from the chest down during the making of Born on the fourth of July.

I can see where people are coming from but its not Bryan Cranston's fault for taking the part. Its Hollywood's fault for not being diverse enough in their casting, something they are rightly being called out on.

To be more serious, I agree that Hollywood has a terrible problem with representation. Scarlett Johansson is rather famous for it. ;)

But I don’t think that somebody has to actually have every characteristic of the person they are playing. Does a gay character have to be played by a gay person? Does a disabled person have to be played by a disabled person? I think not, but at the same time with gay and disabled people being so under represented in the major roles, I can see why people would be pissed off that the straight able bodied person gets the role yet again.

Hollywood is a business though and they will cast the names that they think will result in them making money. The problem for severely disabled actors of course is that they cannot get the “normal” roles that would enable them to build up the profile to get the more high profile roles.

Gay people have it slightly easier as they can play straight in other roles to build up their profiles. It is still very rare (if ever!) that you see an out gay man or woman playing the star roles.

That’s all a long winded way of saying “Of course Cranston can play a disabled guy, but it’s a damn shame that he needs to just because Hollywood ignores genuinely disabled people”.

Fake edit: As an aside, why am I unable to type “disabled”? Every single time I wrote it in that post I wrote “disable”. :x

Upvote, or "like" or whatever. This is my point of view, although I probably have a harder line view of white folks being cast in roles whose identity is intrinsically tied to a certain race (Skarjo being a perfect example, and the debacle around the original casting of Daniel Day Kim's role in the new Hellboy).

Agreed. I purposely left race out of my post as I see that differently. You might be able to make a decent argument that there are not enough actors with a particular disability to be able to fill the specific role or argue that you want to show the person before the disability (as with the Stephen Hawking movie), but it’s impossible to argue there are not enough Asian or Black actors to fill the roles.

Christopher McQuarrie Closes Deal to Direct Back-to-Back ‘Mission: Impossible’ Films
Sources tell Variety that McQuarrie has signed back on to return to write and direct the next two films in the popular franchise. Sources also add that both films would be shot back-to-back — not unlike the final two “Avengers” sequels — in order to take advantage of the popularity of the series, with the first bowing summer 2021 and the second coming out in summer 2022. The release comes in 2021 to avoid conflict with Paramount and Cruise’s next big venture, “Top Gun: Maverick.”

I've definitely got a soft spot for the MI movies. They're not anything spectacular, but Cruise knows how to make an enjoyable movie.

As a way for them to wrap up the series, or at the very least Ethan Hunts story, it would make sense to go out with a big two partner. I do think it's time for Cruise to wrap it up. He's been making these things for twenty years now and he's not getting any younger.

Ideally I'd like them to introduce a new central cast and perhaps take it back to something more like the first film which was far more like a traditional spy thriller than the action movies they so frequently were.

Every time a M:I movie is announced I assume it’s going to be gooseberry fool. But they usually turn out to be (at worst) decent or good.

Back to back movies? They’ll be gooseberry fool.

Hopefully the trio will be back. Wouldn’t be the same without Harold Ramis.

But still...
